How Hard is it to change a belt on a 5.9?
I was thinking of changing out my belt on the 5.9 (07). Staring to squeek a little at shut down. Don't remember doing it before and I have a new belt ready to go... COuld use the OE for a spare. Is it a nightmare to do? Thanks!
Not something you want to change on the side of the road, if its questionable I would change it at home when you have a nice cold engine and a couple hours to kill. Make sure you start at the A/c compressor and tensioner first otherwise you cant get the belt on all the way.
I see you have an 07. How many miles are on it? Seems pretty new to need a new belt.
Anyway, there is a TSB to install an over run clutch on the alternator to stop chirp at shut down, which should be free if the truck is under warranty.

Changing a belt on one of these is not fun, but not too bad. The tensioner accepts a 1/2" square drive, and is easiest to release from the bottom. To get the belt on and off, it is probably easiest to do the water pump pulley first/last, which is easiest to get to from the top.
If you don't have someone to assist, you may be able to wedge a block of wood between the crank pulley and ratchet handle to hold the tensioner back.

The chirp is normal a shut down. Its more noticable in the summertime because of the AC compressor. If you feel that is must be replaced its about a 6 pack job. A case if your Madhat but then again he could have it done in one beer. J/K Mad
