Well it is a good looking truck. I noticed there is a seal missing that is suppose to go on the flat edge of the metal right above the wore loom and below the edge of the insulation pad. With that gone, it can make your windshield fog easier, as the heat from the engine is drawn over the windshield. The seal stops that. Otherwise, it looks good.

Look at your third picture. At the top of the engine bay, where there is a 4 inch or so wide piece of insulation pad, there is a flat edge of metal. Below that flat edge of metal is a black hose looking thing that is really a covering over some wires. There is suppose to be a rubber seal that pushes onto that edge of the metal to keep engine gasses and heat from fogging the windshield. Also when you set your ac to get outside air, it will be getting heated air from the engine without that seal. Look a a few engine pics on autotrader dot com and compare. You'll see it. lmctruck dot com is a good place to order stuff like that from.

Hood to Cowl Seal is what LMC is calling it. It's on page 10 of their catalog, part number 56-5200 however they are only showing it for gen 2 trucks, not gen 3.

That only works with a posi trac differential. With these limit slips and and open diff its almost impossible to got the correct revolutions.

It may just be the VC was swapped for some reason then. Since all the parts interchange between the early and late engines a boroscope on the piston bowls is about the only way for sure to know the base engine.

If it runs good and you don't have excess smoke I would not worry too much. Usually you end up with more smoke and some different power feelings when you swap engines and electronics. That said, unless your used to what it should look and feel like its hard to tell if you just got the truck.

I don't *think* there is a number on the block you can reference to the correct year.

Well the ticker may read 174K but you might be lucky and have an 80K motor in it. Only problem is you'll never know. I'd make sure all fluids were fresh and check valve lash just to be sure, not knowing actual engine mileage. Heck the handy dandy hour meter won't be any fun. Maybe you've got high idle enabled to make up for it. With it idling, turn the cruise on, then press set. If it's enabled, it'll idle up to 1500 or so. You can then adjust idle speed with the increase and decrease buttons. It's cool feature that's there but not enabled by default.

well I don't have any smoke coming from the engine . I am going to change all fluids . I am going to take it by the dodge dealer Saturday if I don't have the build sheet by then and see what they say . I really don't care about this too much as long it runs good and does what I bought it to do , TOW !!!

I have logged less than 150 miles on the truck but I remember I couldn't get the cruise to work .

Won't one wheel be turning to check? Or does it not work for some reason, asking to learn why for my knowledge.

On a limited slip like these or an open rear end the rotation transfer to shaft is never exact due to the spider gears. You always have a little more drag on one wheel than the other and it turns slower while the off wheel spins faster.

Only works on a locker or plate type posi unit.
