You can start with the speedo for axle ratio. With the 3.73 you'll be just under or right at 2000 rpm's at 70, depending on what size tire you have. With he 4.10, you'll be over 2000 rpm's. Maybe even closer to 2100 or 2200. There also should be a tag in the glove box that tells axle ratio. You can always raise the rear end, and rotate a tire one revolution and count how many times the driveshaft goes around.
The exact engine will be defined by mfg date on a sticker on the drivers door opening. There are 2 versions of an 04. The early 04's had the lower HP engine and no cat converter. The 04.5 had a cat and the higher HP engine.
Once you get the exact spec nailed down, update your signature so we'll always know the exact truck your talking about in your posts. Oh, and welcome to the forum. There's lots of good info on here and alot of experience to back it up so start looking around.
I'll go ahead and tell you rule #1. Install a fuel pressure gauge on your truck. it can save you from walking one day. The Lift Pumps are the weak spot on these trucks. It takes fuel from the tank and sends it to the injector pump. No fuel to that means your on foot. A gauge will let you know when it's getting weak or when it fails. It never seems to fail when your at home standing next to it with a new pump and a few wrenches in your hand.
There should also be a sticker on the drivers side of the valve cover on the engine that has the rated HP.

Transmission is 48RE.
Standard gear ratio is 3.73 and is normally not noted anywhere except the build sheet. If you had a non-standard gear it will be noted in the glove box specs. Good bet you have 3.73's.
Build date of 01-04 and later is 325HP 600 TQ, you have an 04.5 designation truck.

I've got the 3.73 rear end, and with stock LT265/70/17 tires (31.4" o.d.), at 70mph the rpms are 1950. I'm guessing you have the 3.73 as your rpms would be even higher if it were the 4.10.

From your rpms\mph its 3.73 ratio.
Uh oh!!!
You have a 2003 Engine in an 04.5 truck and electronics. Somebody melted an engine and swapped in an earlier model.
Wonder if the did the pistons and injectors also?
Hmmmmm, is that sticker on the block or on the VC????

You can check if you jack up the rear. Mark a line on driveshaft to rear and on wheel and axle. Rotate driveshaft about 3&3/4 turns. If wheel makes 1 turn it's 3.73. If you turn driveshaft a little more than 4 turns to get 1 turn of wheel it's 4.10.
It's clear that engine has at the least, been out and repainted. Your not going to get that much paint that clear with it installed and running. Whoever painted it taped over this tag. Amazing. How many miles on the ticker and how much did you pay? Did you get it at a private lot or major dealer? And according to your build date, you have am 04.5 truck. It's required to have a cat converter on it. Also add to your signature where your at. Hope you don't need an emission test to pass an inspection.

got a carfax on it before I bought it . I bought it at a private lot that has been in business for many, many years and is a member of BBB .
Did they tell you it has had an engine swap? As long as your happy and it's running fine, they'll be no reason to panic. I would have preferred them to be up front with me about something like this. If your going to have a surprise swap, one of these motors is the one to have it with.
