I had my tq changed under warranty. It felt like you said Rollin Smoke. But I think it was the lockup in OD in mine that was the worst, under acceleration it would slip real bad and then it clunked and defuelled. Unfortunately, the tq's were on backorder for DOdge and they replaced it with one from Aamco and its starting to shift narly again.

so your saying that it would act like you were lets say shifting a manual trans. and went to shift to the next gear and missed it. nothing caught, you just revved the engine?

sometimes when under medium accelaration my rpms will just slightly right about 48-50 mph and then they drop and the truck goes about its business.
what is happening here?

ANY time that you floor it (in an auto) and you can FEEL that your engine's screaming SHOULD be getting you up the road quick, fast and in a hurry, but you're not...and it feels like your transmission SHOULD shift, but it's not...but then you get up to a high enough speed that your torque converter LOCKS and your truck THEN takes off like a raped date, are indications that your torque converter is no longer doing it's job efficiently anymore. By no means do I think that my torque converter is GOING OUT (if I turn things down, everything is fine) but when I turn things up, you can just FEEL it slipping...if a STOCK truck feels like this, it's time for a new converter, me thinks.

THIS sounds normal...like your torque converter is locking up...that is a GOOD thing.

yea but it like it rev's slightly and then locks up. it doesnt do it under really hard accelaration just about 1/2 throttle, just dont seem like its normal. keep in mind the truck has 126K miles and was doing this before I added the Puck to it this week

How long have YOU had the truck and was it doing the same thing when you got it or is it a new occurance?

In my truck it feels like third gear is slipping, I cant feel a definate shift from 2-3 it just kind of slides in, no hesitation and not alot of rpm drop. I'm not sure, I get confused between gears shifting and tq lockup. My truck did the rev. then lockup weird thing in OD before it was rebuilt at the dealership and is starting to do it again. I wish I got that kind of mileage out of mine before trans issues. Just went over 40k.

I have had this truck since Jan. of this year. it had 117k miles and I noticed a couple days after I got it. The wife drives it most of the time and doesnt dog it. the missed gear thing doesnt happen very often, but the slippage into the lockup happens almost every time when at about 1/2 throttle. just last weekend I changed the trans filter/fluid, adjusted the bands. also found no metal in the trans pan when I pulled it.

My 05 packed the tranny in at 37K. Leading up to it the 2 to 3 shift was very sluggish and it would hunt for the gear. If I kicked it in it would seem to slip and really struggled with that particular shift. Took it in to get checked (no codes) and they said the best thing I could do, since they weren't going to pull it out to inspect, was to take it out and pack it in. So I did. Put my Firebird on the car trailer, hitched up, and went out and spanked it. A week later, on the way home, it started to slow down while driving till I came to a complete stop. Torque converter had let go and filled the tranny full of metal. Total melt down at that point. They then put in a new tranny.

Hunting for gears and soft shifting is not TC failure. If it is locked up and you can make it slip without unlocking, it is being overpowered. If you then floor it and burn it up (like some seem to do) it's toast and that's it.

Mine would start to slip at about 1600 RPM with about 1/2 throttle on a grade. Smarty on #3 (60 HP). It would pick up about 300-500 RPM while still locked.

The last thing you want to do then is deliberately toast it with full throttle. But it will be time to get a new one and do a VB too. You can make it a little happier by running at a higher RPM.
