how do i clear codes

I have a 04.5 with the 48re trans. Which is stock. I am getting the p1740 code. I read on here that it has to do with the transmission. I want to clear the code and see if it comes back. Is there anyway to do this without a code reader or performance programmer? I went to a O'Rileys and they said they don't do it anymore. I tried disconnecting the batteries and it did not work. Maybe the batteries need to be disconnected for a certain amount of time?

Try disconnecting the batteries for 20 minutes, before you hook them back up, turn the key on and press the brake. (should ground out the system)

I know Autozone will still clear codes.

Where are you located? See if someone around you has a smarty, they can do it easy.

Thanks for the help. I will try leaving the batteries unhooked for a while. And if this doesn't work I will go to a Autozone.

the batteries unhooked did not clear mine. It actually threw more. Because the ecm will loose contact with certain parts of the truck. For me it was abs light and sim key or something like that. Autozone where i do live does not clear. But advance auto does.

So you kinda gotta find out who will do it. In michigan neither would do it. Unless i pushed the "delete Code" button.

And where is the connection for the scan tool?

If you're my way...

The OBDII port is right next to the hood release.
