When it says to bump start....does that mean turn the key to on position for a few seconds and off(repeat 3-4 times)? Or does it mean to crank the starter but not let it start(3-4 times)? Sorry for the stupid question , just thought it was hard on starters to crank them without a start!!

Bump start means to just turn the key on and barely bump the starter, about 1/10 of a second. This will make the fuel pump turn on for 15-20 seconds(you can hear it) and prime the empty filter. I did this twice on my filter change and the truck never sputtered a bit when I started it.

Also leave the key in the on position or else the pump will shut off.

You don't need to bump the starter. Just turn on the key and the pump will prime the system.......(you can hear it). After a while it will shut off, and you can do it again. You are correct above...im just correcting the part about bumping the starter...you don't need to do that.

You dont have to bump the starter but the pump will run longer if you do thereby filling the filter faster.

When key is turned to on position pump will run for 1 to 2 seconds
When key is turned to crank position and quickly released (bumping starter) pump will run for 25 seconds and this is standard procedure in the service manual

OK sorry for any confusion I may have caused. I wonder if there is something different on the 06's vs. 04.5's. I can turn my key on and the pump will pump for about 25 seconds with no starter bump.
