HO engine or standard 250 hp??

The truck I just bought was advertised as a HO but come to find out its a standard 250 hp model. Is this a big thing or does the Bully dog and Edge items up the power the same anyway? Are they actually different engines or just different computer programs? I checked on Kelly Blue Book and there is about a $1440 difference in price for the 2 engines.Wanted to know if I should try to get some money back from dealer or give the truck back.

Looking at your sig it seems you may have gotten less HP and an extra pedal in the truck! Did the dealer tell you it was an HO? If they did I'd be having a chat with them about a different truck or at least some $$ back.

I'd try to get some $$ back for misleading you even if it was a mistake. If you put a box on there you will be at or slightly above the output of a stock HO. There are some advantages to running an SO no matter what all the HO guys tell you.....

Dodgezilla what mileage were you at stock? Mine has 3.73 gear. I will probably do the tone ring and advance timing with the slot hole trick behind balancer. I am only looking for mileage here, I do not wish to get incredible power. I am also installing 295/70/17 nitto terra AT's this week.

How many miles on the truck? If I turn both boxes off, I get between 15 and 16mpg. You should expect to lose at least 1 mpg city with the bigger tires and you will probably have a noticeable power loss since you have 3:73s. Your hwy mileage will probably be the same. That power loss is hard to swallow when you have an SO. Throw a box on and you will be happy but that may also cause a mileage loss. I lost 2 mpg w/ an EZ box. My Quad takes away .5 mpg on the low and middle settings. More on the high setting. My Van Aaken box doesn't seem to take any mileage away and it doesn't mess with the overhead readout like the other two boxes do....

IMO if you're hauling it makes a big difference. Not only 55 less HP, but what about tourque and the transmission? (You might want to hook that same box up to a HO, and perhaps have less risk to you're tranny, run it at a lower level, etc...)

If you're towing the HO makes a big difference. Forget the HP, I think that the highest output Cummins 5.9 only has something like 245 HP, but it has about 650 lbs/ft of torque. The SO Cummins in the Ram has 460 lbs/ft of torque compared to 555 in the 2003 HO, and it's hard to ignore 100 lbs/ft of torque. The auto in the HO models is also more robust. I have a SO, an 'evil California' engine that is only rated at 235 HP, but since it's cooler running it evidently also has the potential to do well in the most boring performance parameter of all, which is durability.

I think the SO was 250 HP(outside Cali.), the '03 HO is 305HP, and the new trucks are 325HP & 610. 55 diesel HP made a big difference with the tourque.

I talked with dealed today and we came up with aggreement. He is sending me $600 back. I told him varying options for boxes to make my truck perform like HO and prices. We agreed on $600 bucks. That was very honorable in my opinion as he didn't have to do anything. There was a ad online that stated it was HO but he knew it was not. I never asked cause he was so straight up onm everything I asked I assumed it was HO. His name is Jim Gillen, he is the owner of Vernon County Chrysler in Viroqua,Wi. I will never hesitate to do business with him again. People in the car sales business have a rep for being dishonest and out only for your every penny, he is an exception, granted he did make some money off me and that is okay... that is his business. But for his honesty and effort to make this deal right I give him an A+. Anyone in that area (or ferther away, I drove 7 hours) dont be afraid to deal with this man.

From the reading I've done, it seems that the SO's respond better to power enhancers than the HO's do.
