High pressure fuel/transfer pump
My truck is starting to stink like fuel outside of the cab. I see no leaks as of yet, so I searched here. Based on what I’ve read I believe my high pressure fuel pump is going out. How hard would this job be to do on my own?
TIA

My 2004 started smelling like fuel outside of the cab last year when the weather turned cold. Turned out my CP3 pump was leaking. It was replaced under warranty, apparently there has been some issues with the seals they use. As for as the transfer pump goes, unless you have had it changed, it too is located under your hood on the rear of the fuel filter canister. I did away with mine when I had a FASS system installed. The transfer pumps on the 03's and early 04's were a poor design anyway. They actually pulled fuel from the tank instead of pushed it. Dealerships solution to this is to install an "in tank" tranfer pump, or you can go with an aftermarket system like FASS, Air Dog, GDP, etc. Anway, I would check the CP3 and transfer pump for leaks if you are smelling raw fuel then go from there.

I called my service advisor at my dealership and he says it's covered under warranty. I found this out when he opened for business this morning. Would I be wise to let them fix it, or should I just go aftermarket now. If I do go aftermarket, what kind of $$ am I lokking at?

Randy, that's what I needed to hear. I'm happy with the power just the way it is right now. My Edge is on level 1 and has never been set any higher.

I think that this is a little high, they are around $500-$600 iirc. But if you are done for the modding I would save the coin and let the dealer replace it for free.

Well I got her back yesterday. The service tech said the number 4 injector line was leaking. He tightened all injector lines and fittings and she smells clean again. Total repair cost was ZERO. Gotta love that. :-)

Be ready if they did not replace the #4 line they are prone to slitting and blowing fuel all over the engine bay. It usually cracks right where it attaches to the connector tube at the head. When it goes you are dead in the water.
