Help! Stranded. Won't start. List of what we've done
I know nothing, but a thought I had was to see if anyone else has a heater cord. They are pretty common!
I mean any other trucks. Take one from a plow truck, a passing semi, the UPS guy.... They really are all around.

So the rail pressure can be checked via scanner? What about the return pressure? Just new to the terms of the fuel press test and need to know cuz mine has been sittin for 3 weeks on the long crank time and no start. Have checked the PRV, nothing, FCA is 3 days old and it will start with ether. When running, it is like nothing is wrong and runs well. till I need to start it again....nananananananananananananannnothing!
thanks for the tips

Isn't there a test port on top of the common rail for a HP gauge?
Truck didn't show any codes for low rail pressure. Last cold hard start two days ago, blew a bunch of black smoke.
Oil was tested 500 miles ago by Blackstone. Not issues at all.
Not sure I'll find a grid heater cord in a part store here in Monterrey...not much demand. I'll call around tomorrow AM. If anyone has one, I'll give it a shot and then keep it under the seat.

use a block heater or glow plugs in California. The cycling of the grid heater in this climate just ticks me off on the uneccessary drain on the batteries

check the torque on the crossover tubes. No way to check return other then flow test. Injectors love to go out in the 03 and 04's. usaully the bodies wear and allow flow back to the tank. you can cap one at at a time and see if it starts to eliminate one bad injector more then one flow test or bench testing is needed.
Thanks! No longer stranded
Thanks to all your ideas. This was the first Cummins this shop had worked on!! They wanted to change my CP3 for me...no thanks.
I gave them a list of things (which you all recommended) that I wanted checked prior to dropping several grand on a pump!
Finally got them to cap off injectors (only after they called Dodge to confirm this was valid trouble shooting method).
#3, she still wouldn't start. Capped off #4 and she started right up with lots of black smoke.
Special thanks to Larry Ellis
who put me in contact with a supplier that could get me an injector in Monterrey, CA!
Just got back to San Diego. She pulled my 5er w/o breaking a sweat!
