Injector stuck open, and flooded your engine with diesel. The chance that it's not severely damaged isn't looking too good right now.

Hopefully it is just fuel. Were there any strange noises or performance issues just prior? What does the oil dipstick have to say? If the level has risen and the oil smells like fuel, 06RAM2500 is right. If, and I hope this is the case, the crankcase oil is normal, check all the plumbing around the filter.

Got really lucky sounds like. As you already know, do not attempt to start the engine. Right now, trying to keep damage at a minimal is really important.

Sounds like a bullet has been dodged. Unlike gasoline, diesel will provide at least a some lubrication, slowing the damage. Hope all goes well.

HOLY SMOKES....8 gallons !!! Yeah, I'd say it was full enough that it had to find a way out. If an injector was to stick open wouldn't the engine have tried to run away with itself!! Never experienced this myself but seems like that would happen as an endless supply of fuel would have been present to that cylinder/cylinders.

Hopefully it can be fixed easily with a set of stix and not with a tear down and re-build. Keep us posted....I know I'm curious!!!

Fuel /air is combustible, fuel itself not so much. You can easily flood a cylinder and it won't go bang.

If you flooded a cylinder wouldn't the piston go bang? Fuel/liquid doesn't compress well.

I always thought that it was the body of the injector cracking that allowed it to access the crankcase.

Am I wrong?

What state do you live in? There's a shop right next to Cummins Rocky Mountain in Billings, MT that has a test bench and you won't have to wait a month for them to get tested. Flux or F1, they got a long turnaround time.

You are running F1's.

Little tip, if you could, please. Fill out your signature, this way we know what equipment your running (stock and aftermarket).
