Help-- Problem with truck

I was driving today and seemed to lose power, I could floor it and it would barely accelerate. As I slowed almost to a stop, the truck began to shudder violently at about 2-3 mph even with it in neutral? I've always had some minor shudder on take off, but this felt as it was in the front end. The truck also shuddered really bad in a slow rt hand turn. I jacked up the front, spun both wheels... bearings feel ok, calipers not grabbing? I'm leaning towards bad U joints, however I checked the universal joints in the front drive shaft.... no play... rears.... none of the joints themselves have play, the drop bearing (two piece driveshaft) has alot of play (verticle), but I think its supposed to be that way? Any suggestions? Oh yah, I burned 1/4 tank today driving 20 miles!

Check your oil level. Pull off your boxes and try it then.

Was there any smoke ? Any other sounds ? When you said you floored it and it barely accelerated ,you mean the power was still there , rpm's went up.

No smoke, revs fine in neutral, pulled box...... still there... the truck has power, just feels like something is holding it back..... I thought maybe brakes or bearings, but front wheels roll fine when lifted? Would a U joint affect the available power that much? Feels like I'm pulling a couple of FORDS around.....

hold long have you been running that banks six gun? Sounds like it is finally time for a new clutch. definatly when your pulling around 35 inch tires all the time. In lower gears does it pull fine or is it just higher gears? But it sounds like your clutch if you have all the power motor revs fine and no smoke I would say your clutch is not getting the power to the ground.

I've had the six-gun on for over a year, but I rarely put it on anything over level 4. Would the transmission cause the truck to vibrate as it slows with the trans in neutral and the clutch not engaged?

What would a new clutch cost me?

sounds simialr to mine when the transfer pump went out. but i could let off the accelerator and punch it again and it would be fine. it only happens when i FIRST fire the truck up no matter how many times a day. and it didnt matter which way you turned. the dealer replaced the transfer pump and it went away. dont know if it helps but its an idea.

yea , most likely the transfer pump went out , different reaction from different trucks , but most are pretty close.

Well.... I removed the front/rear drive shafts..... all the U joints were bad..... they didn't have any play in them when I push on them while still on the truck, but once I got them off, I couldn't move them, specially the rear 3 U joints... they were completely seized up.... taking the shafts to driveline place tomorrow to put some good spicer greasable one's in.... Maybe this will increase my MPG back up.... I've been noticing a sharp decrease in the last 4 months.....

Suggestion from Volvo Driveline: These stock units are crap, they will only last 20-40K, replace with a good spicer greasable joint and then you won't worry about being stuck with a limp truck!
