Question Help Needed 05 will not start

ok 254,000 miles on my 05 and I dropped an exhaust valve, hole in the piston then out the turbo... ugly. Got an 06 engine with 73,000 used my harness and Ecm. Got the truck running and it ran great but had 2 codes 0340and 0341 camshaft. Drove it all day Sat. turned it off and now no start. Then I found the wires by the AC that were shaffed repaired the wires and the codes went away still no start. I have started tracing wires and checking the ECM. At the end of my day new codes 0602 ( which I've had for a while ) 0111 and 0251. Truck turns over no smoke. I have checked fuel return, fuel pressure... new FCA,cam sensor, crank sensor. I am using the fuel filter , fuel rail, fuel pump off my 05 as it was still running with a bad piston. Guys I need some help I'm out of ideas your thoughts would be great and gotta love this place

My first thought is clear all the codes and start over. If you don't have a Smarty or code reader pull the battery cables for at least 30 minutes and reattach them, then see if it will start. If it will you can monitor what pops up and that may help run down the problem.

Do you have a way to check fuel pressure at the rail while cranking? Clear codes which codes come back when cranking? All grounds to ECM and battery are tight?

Yes I have a code reader. Can clear codes and monitor fuel pressure. yesterday i checked the grounds inside the ECM harness with a test light and they where good. code 0111 keeps coming back. 0251 I think was because i checked the harness fused B+ circut with ignition switch on yesterday. Seems like something is not telling it needs fuel. We were having a no start issue all along with code 0340,0341 replaced cam sensor crank sensor toner and balancer started and ran great idle speed good fuel pressure great. I think I have a wiring harness problem or bad ECM...Thanks and keep it cummins....

Don,t know if this will help, thr cam sensor wire down by the condensor , there is a clip, disconnect the clip , check for any wiring ,connection issues there, dealer had to solder the connections as one was cracked on my 06, thought it was the cam sensor.

Ok I was able to get rid of the 0111 by putting on a new sensor. Still a no start, but the 0236 did not clear, with the scan tool hooked up my fuel pressure goes up on down as I wiggle the harness. Taking it off this weekend. Anybody have a spare harness laying around for a 05 with a G56 tranny. If not were is the best place to get one?

Hey folks Got the old gal running again. I removed the injector line from #1 and replaced with test cap and bingo she started. I removed the cap installed the injector line from the other fuel rail (after retorqing the injector tube). She started and ran great! This morning no start and 0341 code I will recap the injector could it be a leaking injector? Keep you posted

Finally got the engine straighten out. appears the cam gear was not pressed on far enough. Replaced the Harness, ECM, injectors and tubes but not before the bolts broke in the thrust washer and wiped out all the gears. Replaced them Crank, cam and Fuel gears. Did not pull the cam shaft heated the gear cooled the shaft slipped it right on the gear flushed out with the shaft just like the old one. Put her back together and still had a cam code!! Pulled the front off her again and pulled the cam shaft ( used the wooden dowels it was easy) the gear still needed to press on an 1/8 of an inch pressed it on installed and finally no codes what so ever. Never thought an engine swap would be so difficult... good to have my truck back 06 engine in a 2004.5 runs great wish I would have checked the end play of the cam could fixed way sooner and a lot cheaper

Don't feel bad I installed a Cummins reman and after one year warranty ran out cam code P0341 would set. They would not warranty camshaft. After I showed them cam shaft end play was out of spec. I Lost my confidence in all Cummins remans after that one.
