Haze at idle?
Haze at idle?
I have an 05 2500 4x4 swb At idle it has a haze you can smell the fuel in it (burns eyes). I changed fuel filter no change. My guess is injector failure so i was wondering if i unplug each injector one at a time to watch when haze stops could i tell wich injector is bad? Low on cash from xmas so only want to replace one right now and dont want to take it to a shop if i could diagnos and fix myself. Thanks in advance for the help

You will have to cap injector line at the rail using special capping tool one at a time. Or run a injector contribution test if you have access to scanner or dealership buddy that can run test for you. Usually the lowest reading % injector is the culprit. Good Luck

My'03 did the same thing while I was hotshotting. At idle you'd thought I had 200hp injectors the haze was so bad. No dealership could figure it out. Talked to the guys at Dynamite Diesel and they seemed to think that a pintle in one or more of the stix was sticking open and leaking fuel by.
I have run Power Service in every tank since the truck was new which did make it run better in my opinion but for some strange reason once I quit working the truck the problem went away. Now with 300k on it I do get a strange idle from time to time until I do work the engine hard and then it idles like a champ but I still have no haze until I romp on it
.
I'd start by trying some fuel treatment and go from there.

Usually check out is one hour labor time to do a quick scan for codes and injector % of contribution test, injector kill test. CP3 test and injector return flow test, limiting valve test, lift pump test is usually extra labor charge.
