Having new TSB flash on Friday, it's done

Friday @ 8 a.m , I'm scheduled for the new flash. I've been getting good mileage with my truck. Dealer claims it will improve my mileage and also recalibrate my overhead computer for better accuracy. I will let you know how it works out.

Thank you for the info odie.

I'll check to see if it applies to my '04.5

I am getting ~ 19 MPG at 60 MPH on the highway. 10.3 MPG towing heavy and ~ 14-16 MPG highway and city.

I would love to find a site where we can type in VIN and see what TSB's have been done.

Take care.. let us know if your MPG gets better or worse.

Cheers frank

My milage has always been good 15 town (not city) 17 highway. My overhead always read 2.0-2.5 on the low side. The flash also adjust's your overhead computer. I haven't hand calculated my mileage yet, however, I drove approx. 150 miles on the highway after the flash. The over head was reading 19.4 @ 65 mph.... before the flash it would have read 15.5-16.0 (same highway). I'm not claiming that I gained 3-4 mpg more. My gut feeling says I gained 1 maybe 2 mpg more . I sure hope the overhead is accurate. The only bad part about the flash, is that I just got out of the habit of constantly looking at my overhead computer.

Oldie

Thanks for the update.

I have asked my service rep to deterimine if my unit needs the flash. My engine was built on 04-29-04.

I'll find out Monday if it has been done when the diesel mech is back at work.

Thanks again for the info.

cheers frank

just hand calculated my first tank after the flash. The overhead is dead-on accurate. 70% town 30% highway 17.7 mpg. Before flash my mileage would have been 15.5-16.0. The service manager was right!!!! I gained 1.5 - 2.0 mpg. What really makes me happy is , on the highway @ 63mph the overhead was reading 20.4 mpg. Just thought I would share the good news!!

Odie, how about power, noise, and engine response. I get 11.5 around town hand calc. and 13.5 on hwy at 80-85mph. Not good compared to most but it seems to run alright and clean.

Your milage should be a little better than mine as I have an auto (48RE and a 4.10 rear end.) Your improvement sounds good.

I am schedulled in on Oct 12th evening. Yes my dealership is open to midnight week days and the GOOD diesel mech is working that evening. Great Guy.

I'll put the TSB description in the next reply.

I'am getting mine flashed tomorrow[18-037-04] hope this helps I have been getting around 12 mpg city and highway combined. The place I get my fuel you enter miles on truck and they give you a print out every fill up for mpg so I don't use just the over head.I have been reading this site for month and finally got on today I don't know how to put sigs on bottom yet so truck is a 04.5 48re Laramie quad SRW.The dealer has not impressed me so far as I have had to do all the research to help solve my problem, thanks mostly to this site. My 91 cummins gets 24 highway 20 city and the worst I have got is 17 with 5th eqipment trailer loaded to max.Sure wish this new one was half the truck of my old one
but I guess it is if I look at the MPG

It might just be me , but I think it's smoother. The power is still there and there's no noticable noise difference. There is a rumor that Cummins is putting out another flash that is supposed to improve the mileage more. However , it's just hear say at this point. But if it's true... that would be sweeeeet ( Hemi pun intended)

Too bad Cummins would not install/certify the Predator for the CTD.
