About a month ago I noticed alot of smoke coming out the blow bye tube while my truck was idling....I checked my oil and I was two quarts low....Didnt notice any oil on the ground till a couple of days ago....Its coming out of the blow bye tube and dripping on the 4x4 transfer case then onto the pavement...Ive done a search on this several times here and cant seem to find someone who has had the same problem with a fix...Trying to figure out why its leaking and what its going to cost to fix....Thanks for the help...

Blowby from the tube is fine and it's even normal to get a few drops onto the ground if you have been pulling hard. THe only thing that sounds a little weird is you were 2 quarts low. Usually you will get blow by if it's too full etc.. I would get under it and clean the tube real good and monitor your oil level etc.. There have been several people on here devise ways to catch the oil by extending the tube et...

 

I'd say if you did lose 2 quarts from the blow-by tube you've definitely got a problem. Start your engine and take off your oil cap, and tell us how much pressure you can feel coming out of it, you should really only be able to feel a little if any. Mine does have a little drop of oil on the end which as said above is normal.

 

I will keep watching it...I havent pulled heavy in a while, just a small trailer 16ft horse trailer a couple of days ago.....The oil covers the front differential pretty good...Chwhit what kind of pressure should be coming out of the oil fill????This is begining to worry me!!!

last night I went out and took mine off and the truck was cold so I felt just a little bit, could barely feel it coming out. Kind of like if you covered the hole with a napkin it probably wouldn't blow it off, might not even move, in reality if you tried this your fan would probably blow it away but that little amount of air should be coming out. If it's blowing air out and the shots of air are spaced apart like it's coming from one cylinder going through a complete engine cycle, you're losing compression from a cylinder. I would have someone do a compression check. Good luck to you buddy, if you're anything like me if someone was telling me this and I felt anything coming out of that oil fill hole I'd freak out, it might just be normal because you will feel a little. -does your truck sound different, because if it sounds alright you're probably alright?

 

The truck runs just as good as it ever did....Just never leaked oil like its doing now...This is my third CTD and this one is the only one that has ever done this...I would think that if it was loosing compression it wouldnt run as good would it???? Im just hoping that this isnt going to be a money pit in repairs!!!

You're exactly right, if it was loosing compression you'd notice it sounding different while it's running and while you're starting it you would notice the engine speed up on the bad cylinder because the starter isn't compressing air on that stroke, just a worst case scenario but I'd bet it's not that bad. Do you change your own oil? If you don't, the people that did it could have left it low on oil. Is it 2 quarts low from when you checked it last or from the full line?
