Hard Start Linked To Temperature

So my hard start problem really seems to be linked to a heat/temperature issue. I can start it in the morning, although it still takes 4-5 seconds, drive it to work (20 mi/40 min.) and park it. This happens at 6:45 AM. At 8:30 AM (1 hr-45 min) I try to start it and it either won't start, or it takes constant repeated long cranks. However if I come back out at say lunchtime 11:30, it will start the same as it did in the morning. It's like something gets hot and doesn't function as well as it does when it is cool. Figure this one out.........thanks-Curtis

I think I just found the culprit. I went and picked up a gauge so I could check pressure on the LP side. I also decided that I would make sure the fuel filter canister was cleaned out real good. Much to my chagrin, when I had the lid off and old filter out, drained and looked down inside with a flashlight...................it's PACKED with some light-colored crud, kind of grainy-like substance. I doubt that the CP3 was getting quite enough feed to pressure up the CR. I'm taking a water/beer break and almost have the canister off. I'm gonna clean it real well, inspect all the components attached to it and re-install it with another new filter. I know this has to be it. ****!!!!!!!! Man, what a relief! Holy putty Batman! It's fixed! Cranks up like a champ. I have a leak on a push-on return line, but a hose clamp will fix that. Yeesh.

i just drained my fuel filter today and it only filled up 1/4 of a bud 12oz. bottle.

i take it i do not have alot of water in my fuel.....

It's not too bad to remove. 2 bolts, 2 wiring pigtails, 2 banjo bolts (I left the bottom banjo intact and just removed the rubber hose going to the CP3, and 2 bracket bolts. I believe I'd try to clean it still on the engine next time (solvent & compressed air). But, I did what I felt I had to do.........and always make sure you get the banjo bolt gasket/washers back in place!

Thats what I was wondering. If it might be better to do it in place (I have an old 12v fuel pump for sucking stuff out). Thanks for the info.
