Exclamation Had the new recall done & no horn when backing up

i took my truck in for a new steering gear box and dodge did that new recall on my truck even though i told them not to. but i got it back this morning.

the thing is it does not beep the horn when i drive the truck in any gear with the door open! it only beeps the horn if the shifter is stuck between the P and R and the door is open so maybe dodge fixed this because of the complaints.

I don't beleive the recall was supposed to make it honk if you were backing up in reverse in the first place. It was soley for the fact that people wern't putting their trucks in park and they were rolling away, so if you don't have the tranny engaged in park in the first place it will sound the horn. At least my truck does after they flashed it.

I've never had an issue w/ my truck rolling around while it was in park to begin with. I accidently scared an old lady the other day. I threw my truck in park and opened the door to quick, it wasn't fully engaged and as she was directly in front of my truck the horn blew. I felt sortive bad.

For laughing? J/K, that would have been a Hallmark moment for me!

By federal law they are required to perform the recall. Luckily, when mine was in for the lift pump I was able to get out of there without them doing it because they procrastinated on doing the warranty work until I went out there and raised a stink. Then they just did the lift pump and nothing else.

i kinda feel bad because when i said "i told them not to do it" it was more like ranting and raving and making a scene that i did not want them to do it because i did not want my truck to honk, and then when they did do it the truck didnt honk after all so i kind of feel bad for giving them such a hard time but then again thats the same dealer that their diesel "expert" told me there was no CAT on my truck.

Did you have your seatbelt on? It should only honk if it is in reverse, door open, no seatbelt.

Consider yourself lucky.

The recall was to install the "safety" feature that the 06's already have. It is supposed to prevent you from exiting the vehicle without park fully engaged while the motor is still running. If it is not fully in park, when you undo the seatbelt, open the door and let off the brake it will start honking at you.

Ya know what...? That seems to be what happened to mine. I tested it when it came back after having my transmission serviced and the recall done. I could not make the horn alarm honk no matter what I tried. Then about a week later it seemed to be activated. Strange...maybe it's activated after X number of key cycles. Perhaps those Dodge Tech's don't want their service bays to be filled with a garage full of honking Dodge Rams, they want them off the lot before they go crazy!

Once you figure it out it's not that bad. I can back up and open my door as long as my seat belt is engaged. I can also put it in neutral and it does not trigger the alarm. I think what must trigger it is when it is in any position that is adjacent to Park, like Reverse or somewhere in between Park and Reverse [P-R-N-D-2-1]

Anyway, I am glad I had it done for the liability factor - I did my part! At least now, my truck will give someone a fighting chance by honking at them just before it runs em down.

I'm really not lucky....

I can't beleive this stupid recall... When I got it done the service manager was telling me a story about some guy backing up a trailer in a camp site late at night and woke up the whole entire camp site up with his horning blowing.

I did it twice today. Once this morning (First time) when I was backing my truck up at work at (4am). I had my seatbelt fastened and still went off. I quickly closed my door and it went away. Then later when I went home backing into the drive-way.. This time I jumped out got the mail (left the truck on, in park no problem) then got in and went down the street to my house and backed up with the door open and the seatbelt unfastened and sure enough it went off.

I know there was a work around for the selt belt alarm not to go off... is there one for this stupid thing??????? PLEASE HELP...

BUM

simple solution. don't open the door while driving, or clip the wire in the door latch so it never thinks it is open..
