03/04 trucks, were delivered with either "package", HO's had oil cooling in the piston skirt and more agressive fueling programming.

04.5 and up were all the same.

If someone is selling an SO "cheaper', that is their loss, Smarty or TST makes them equal, kinda like Sam Colt.

If it states 250hp on the valve cover, it is an SO, do not worry, 47RE trans, Bill @ DTT, told me that he preferred them over the 48RE, I respect his word.

Plus, Smarty or TST, will make the engines output equal, the same, ask Tomeygun, he has an SO @ = any HO.

So you are joking about a 47RE over a 48 RE......... right? I always thought of DTT as good transmissions until now.

I am not joking, Bill Kondalay specifically told me, he preferred the 47RE,
"Less Mass", those are his words.

A "DTT" transmission is "top of the line", 47RE or 48RE, MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT THAT!

Jess

Getting way off track here, Sorry, this is about SO vs HO.

SRW 2wd, 3.73 with the manual gets the best fuel economy. Fairly easy to break the 20mpg barrier on the highway. With the auto and 4wd can knock 1-2mpg off of that. And the same for the 4.10 gearing.

My best ever was 24.5mpg (hand calculated) running 60-65mph for the distance.

The SO is a fine setup. But if it's a choice between the SO and HO take the HO every time. If you don't care about power and plan to keep it stock the SO might be better.

Some important internal engine mods on the HO, 48RE tranny or six speed, 11.5 axle. The SO may have a cat but the HO does not. There should be no mileage advantage with the SO either unless you are calling for over 250 HP. It's easy to say you can add power to the SO, and you can, but the cooling jets on the HO are designed to work with that extra power.

But the $ he saves buying the SO might pay for the upgrades to make it better than an HO.

I don't belive any SO had cats, unless the CA emissions (235hp) did.
