guess what is wrong here
am not sure how I missed the mistake when I installed the head or how it held together for the last 3 years. Can anyone guess what is wrong in the picture???
History 3 years ago I lossed a motor and took the head toa very well known local gas and racing engine machine shop and builder for a valve job and to have two bad valves replaced. He did the work I installed the head and ran the snot out of the motor since then. The wife took it sled puliing adn it came home with a miss and it was leaking compression out the intake and exhaust. The head has 12 leaking seats but that is not the major problem in the pic. Who whats to guess Rob

I've never had the head off mine, but I'll offer a guess. Comparing your photo to the '03 book, it appears one of the dimpled valves is mixed up with a non-dimpled valve thus non-matching seat angles.

I made that pic show for ya
Maybe it's just the way you too the pic, but to me it looks like he put the valves in the wrong spot, mixed up one intake and one exhaust (exhaust valve has the dimple in it.)

the intake valve in the exhaust port the center is pulled in almost 1/8 of a inch further than the edge of the valve. that could have been real bad if it would have broken off

a very well known racing engine builder and machine shop did the work on the head the first time. I would think that if that can build big block motors to last turning over 8k I would not have to check over their work
I'm a boss now, but I used to work on fighter jet electronics. HUD's, DDI's, RADAR, FLIR, COM, all kinds of stuff. After a few years, I could tell you what the part number of most of the normal components were in that stuff... I knew what was what, most torque spec's, etc.
That manual was always out, and I always at least glanced at it to make sure I was right. Then we had supervisors look over it.
Of course, if he screws up, the truck/car don't run. People die if I screw up.

Trouble with racing engine builders. (not all of them mind you ) they build to an almost military spec. Meaning it has to last 3 minutes under full battlefield conditions.
Seriously enough, I learned a long time ago, to always double check. Not because I don't trust the guy doing the build, but because if your hands were the last in the mix... its YOUR name all over the job.
I had a brand new CAT cylinder head last year, for a 3406E 550 Engine. Over $12k, right from Caterpillar. Looked as beautiful as a complete head can look in bare cast. Went to install it, got all the externals on that can be done before the swing. Set it in place and... hmmmm it won't sit down on the gasket. So, much head scratching later, I pick it back up. The dowel holes, and the lube oil feed hole were NOT FINISHED. They were still "as cast" and not machined to final tolerance. That, and the rear dowel hole was out by almost 55 thou to the rear, and 22 thou to the side. Now there's some quality.
And the dealer still had the nads to look me in the eye and tell me that the jobber heads I had been using were junk. Sure.
Good that the engine got you that far, and good it didn't crater. Now build it bigger, better, stronger, faster.
