Guages are in,now I have questions...

I have a bone stock 2004.5 3500 with an auto. I finally got my gauges installed this last weekend. I put in the Isspro Pyrometer (Pre-Turbo), Transmission Temp, and Boost in an overhead pod. I have the Isspro cool down temp monitor ready to go in this weekend as well.

So I drive to work yesterday, 30 miles of freeway at 70-72 mph, and 8 miles of city streets. The EGT's were a steady 600-800* depending on if I was cruising or accelerating. On the one uphill grade on the route I hit about 900-1000 holding 70 mph. I pull into the lot and my EGT's are right at about 550*. I back into my spot and prepare to wait for a minute or less and the EGT's drop right to just under the 300* line within about 2 seconds.

Isn't that a bit fast to cool down so quickly? Our temp was in the lower 60's yesterday if that matters. I figured I would have to wait at least 30 seconds...

Also my tranny was showing about 115-120* while on the freeway and would climb to about 135* while in park. Is that normal?

Mine does not cool down that quick. It usually takes a minute or two to get down to 300*. The tranny sounds about right.

There is another post on here talking about this and many people are saying between 15 seconds and 1 min. (if not towing) to cool down. I can't say for myself though because I am just now getting ready to order my guages.

If you were working the truck, the heat seems to permeate the manifold, which then means that it will take longer to cool down. I personally think that 300 is way lower than you need to wait for it to shut off,, anything lower than 375 is good, my personal point it 350.

Thanks, is it still a good idea to give it 15-30 seconds anyway?

Here you go. I went with the black face version because I thought it would blend better with the black screen of the overhead trip computer thing. I also thought white might be a bit distracting.

Only tips I have for an overhead install are:
A) The mounting screws on the back of the gauges are too long to fit in the mount. I had to cut about 5/8" or so off of each of them to get em to fit right.

B) I also cut off the front face of the brackets to allow them to fit the shorter screws.

C) I got my kit from Diesel Manor and it came with absolutely everything I needed except the tap and drill. If I had just picked up the gauges on my own it would have been a few trips to the hardware store to get everything.
