Governor sensor/Bands question

I did the new governor pressure sensor and solenoid today, and it made a big difference in my shuttle shifting. I still have SOME issues though, which I think may be band related.....or?

The truck will still hold gears a little longer than I like. First will really hold on without much change in speed, and then finally release into the next gear. If I'm going 20-30 or so and hit an on ramp and start to accelerate, the truck still feels like it comes out of gear and the RPM's jump HARD. If I let off, I can feel the truck go back into gear and then I can continue to accelerate. It will do this same thing in god knows what gear if I accelerate hard from a stop too. If I drive the truck from a stop light accelerating like a normal person it will get all the way into lock up without a hitch, although it may hold 1st just a smidge too long. It's only when I get on the throttle a little more aggressively that it seems to come in and out of gear.

Any ideas? I didn't do the bands at the same time because I didn't have a 3/8" to 1/4" adapter to make my torx bit fit on my torque wrench, so that's something I'll have to do after I get some 3/8" socket torx bits, or an adapter. The important band is the front band that can be done with the pan on the truck right? The one inside the band is for reverse if I'm not mistaken?

Thanks for the help guys, autos are a whole new world to me.

Shawn

Sounds like the kickdown cable may be out of adjustment.

Ok back up for this one. I did the front bands tonight, but have a question. The adjuster screw and jamb nut were all rusted together so I pulled it all right out, cleaned it all up and put it back together. Before I did this I reallly REALLY had to tighten it down before my torque wrench clicked, and it was the same afterwards. My question is now to get it to torque properly I actually have to tighten the front band so far that the adjuster end is actually inside of the transmission housing.

Obviously, I can't tighten this far enough. Is this truly because the band is worn that bad, or is it because I pulled the adjuster out and then put it back in? I'm thinking I may have screwed the pooch by taking the adjustment screw out? If not, I guess it's going to my tranny guy to get built this week, just a few months sooner than I was expecting

Thanks guys,
Shawn

hi
when you backed the adjuster screw all the way out you prob droped the ancor inside the trany !
you will pob have to remove the valve body to reinstall the ancor .
it will prob be lying on top of the valve body !

there should be some threads left outside the jamb nut and torque is about 35 ft lb .
is your wrench reading correctly ?

Wrench is definitely reading correctly. Before I pulled the adjuster out it went almost all the way in before I met the torque reading. Verified on two different torque wrenches (twist handle and needle dial). Tried to back out while holding jamb nut and the adjuster went in so far, it cross threaded on the jamb nut coming back out which is why I pulled the whole assembly in the first place.

I was supposed to make a 400 mile trip first thing tomorrow morning, but it sounds like I won't be able to do that now with the truck the way it is right? Or can it be limped as long as I don't let the band slip?

Shoulda got a 6 speed.....

Thanks for the help,
Shawn

You are torquing them to 72inch pounds (not ft pounds), correct? 72 inch pounds is not much torque at all.

Yes, turned out to be the band apply anchor had fallen when I pulled the adjuster. I'll be starting a new thread soon on my "built" transmission that's being done right now. The anchor turned out to be a blessing in disguise...
