I know that at the dealer I work at (Lithia Chrysler,Jeep,Dodge in Bryan,TX) we always use the MOPAR brand gear oil and part of the reason it does cost so much is that it is actually a synthetic gear oil too. Personally I still use the Amsoil gear oil. Neither the Amsoil and the MOPAR gear oil need additive when used in the American axles.

The AAM axles don't require any additive regardless of what syn gear oil is used. The additive is for clutch type limited slip differentials. The AAM limited slips use all gears. No purpose whatsoever for using an additive. There are many brands of actual synthetic gear oils. Most widely available is probably Mobil 1. There are also Valvoline SynPower, Red Line, Royal Purple and Castrol Syntec. All are MUCH less expensive than the Mopar stuff at, what $40 a quart? I have no idea what Amsoil products sell for as I don't buy the stuff.

Yes sir, the oil pan is tough to get to. Sent you a PM on it. Truck under warranty dealer can fix but be prepared to pay for oil and filter.
