Exclamation Good dealership service !

Just had oil pan gskt replaced under warranty week or so ago and had a voucher for 1 free oil and filter change service. Today noticed that still had the same oil filter on from before the work was done.Drove right to the dealership and explained it to them. They looked it up and agreed that the service was done, but couldn't figure out how that was omitted with the oil pan being dropped and record of oil change. They took it right in and changed the oil again w/ new filter. They checked everything and notified me of rear differential oil needed changed. Wanted to do that too, at cost to me.($160.00). Told them that I prefer to do that myself and turn my own wrenches when I can. They didn't have a problem with that. Got the part #'s for lube.($125.00). Anyone know if I can get aftermarket synthetic lube for less ? Amsoil or other ?

Rear differential takes 7.6 pints. That's slightly less than four quarts. Even if you have to pay $10 a quart of syn axle lube, that's $40 plus tax. Gasket is reuseable. Let's see $160 - $40 = $120. Seems like you could do it for a BUNCH less than $160.

That's what I thought motorhead. They want roughly $25.00 a quart. Total capacity is 4.2 quarts. They got a $8.00 additive, too. Is this stuff from Chrysler like gold plated or what. Hear good things about amsoil syn. Gonna look into it.

Geez, the dealer should know that there is no additive required on the AAM axles!

I use the valvoline synthetic myself, but as long as it is an AAM axle, there is no additive required.

Well.....if it was an older parts guy or even service guy, it could just be force of habit. For years, Dodge has used that additive. I'd give 'em a little slack, but 25 bucks a qt for fluid......not on my invoice they wont!
