Going to Dealership for service/need advice!

I recently began to feel quite a vibration coming from underneath my 2003 CTD with automatic tranny between about 65-75mph. It was never there before. I also hear a squeeking when I reverse and an odd sort of tapping noise going forward. I got under there thinking it was the u-joints, but they still look good and feel tight. As best I could tell, the squeek in reverse sounded like it was coming from the very back of the transfer case where the driveshaft yolk stabs into the output shaft. I did notice the little rubber boot on the transfer case at that location is dry rotted. I also observed Dodge put some sort of what looks like a harmonic balancer on the driveshaft in the same area. It could be coming from there but I was unable to determine that for sure. I'm going to take the truck to the dealer tomorrow for service and wonder if any of ya'll have had similar issues and if there is anything I should look out for. I have never used the dealer before and hope I don't have to educate them or help them diagnose the problem but we all know how that goes.

Thanks,

TXPOWER

Longbeds had a lot of complaints with the 2000-2500 RPM 70MPH drive shaft rumble. Did you try a search for "70 MPH vib"

I would also say u-joints.

Had the same symptoms on another vechicle years ago. Crawled underneath and checked the driveline and all appeared fine but could not think of any other explaination so pulled it anyway.

Yep, the needle bearings were powder on two of the cups, and the others were on thier way to becoming the same.

Drive careful on the way to the dealership, and good luck.

It's a short bed quad cab. If it is u-joints, chances are that ain't covered is it?

Warranty

7 yr. 70,000 mi. Warranty I would think so.... unless they thought they could claim abuse somehow.

They should fix it no problem. Minus deductuble.

I don't know where you are in North Texas, but stay away from the dealer in Richardson. I have also been to Plano, Mckinney and Sherman. Sherman seems to have the best service and most knowledgable people.

Just my opinion................
