G56 Failure
#31
The g56 has been used in trucks much larger than our for a few years now, with a pretty good record from what I've read. The nv may be 6 times stronger than the average pickup needs instead of only 4.5 times as strong. Parts are also getting hard to find and expensive. And yes, nv's do fail and need parts (otherwise, who would be buying them?)
The fact that someone SLED PULLING for Christ's sake has managed to break two of them hardly relegates them to junk status. Like has been brought up by someone else, are the auto's junk too because you can't sledpull with them stock? All this has proven is that you don't want a g56 for serious sled pulling. It does NOT prove that the transmission is inferior for other uses. Futhermore, the fact that the g56 broke under sled pulling does not mean that those same failures are necessarily ever going to occur under other use. Whoever said that was using false logic-it simply isn't true. If the freakin case breaks from sledpulling, that does not mean it'll break after normal towing at high mileage. Might break other stuff, but extreme usage like sledpulling can indeed induce failures that no amount of lesser abuse will cause.

All I can say is bigd6.6 well done, I would love to see some dyno #
As far as the NV5600 is I broke 1 in 8000 miles The g56 in my 06 is great so far with 12000 on it. The last 7000 miles I have been hauling hay 20 1600 pound bales on a 34 flatbed I don't think the g56 is junk!

My first one lasted 32000 miles about 25000 was pulling at least ten ton with 30 foot goosenecks seeing as I haul square bale hay for a living. My truck dynoed 468hp and 926torque with the stock charger but my second g56 only lasted 2 hooks and i had 15 on the other one for on the road im sure that they are fine on a stock truck but alot of people dont leave them stock and im not saying that they should hold up to any more than 325 610 but I know of a lot of 5600 with much more power that do hold up. Oh and chrysler said that in my first tranny that my bearing races were blue from all of the heat and also I dont think a g56 will last without a dual mass flywheel or they wouldnt put them on there from the factory. But I agree with you all 100 percent that they will probably last forever if you never go overboard on power and leave the dual mass flywheel in.
Oh and i have never broken a case i just bust gears and ruin the counter shaft.

A previous post said that his rpm's didnt match his speed....I just put in a Juice and have experienced something similar. I guess clutch slip? I also have noticed a shudder in 2nd when the G56 gets hot. It happened once when pulling heavy and once in bad stop and go traffic. other than that, 21,000 miles and no problems, although sometimes while in 6th and low rpms just cruising, i notice a kinda rattle in the stick like I want to put my hand on it to hold it to get it to stop but it doesnt. I dont sled pull or race but I do tow between 10 to 12k toy hauler loaded when I can, but I got on it empty while in mode 3 w/the juice and noticed the rpms shooting way up with no change in speed that I now contribute to clutch slip? Maybe I need to call SBC and order a new 1000 dollar clutch

Any stock parts are much more likely to break with heavy use/abuse, so I'm not shocked to hear about a G56 breaking while sled pulling - but I'd say the jury's still out on whether or not it's Chrysler (I mean, MB) junk... at least until there's a significant number of failures to look at.

The Nv5600 can stand up to a bunch of abuse. Now the customer pays the same price for a truck thats a lesser product.
Everyone can keep on with their "say it ain't so" thing but the truth sometimes hurts.

I dunno guys
Ive NEVER heard of anyone with a stock truck having anything but wonderful things to say about the G56.
I have one and the thing has been smooth and perfect from mile 1.

What truth is that? The truth that they break when sledpulling, or the truth that there's an amazing lack of terrible problems with them under anything even REMOTELY resembling normal use? I'm not sure I follow...

I'm not arguing-I just didn't understand what you were saying. I guess it's that 2 of them breaking under sledpulling makes them "junk", but I wasn't sure if that was what you referring to.
