G56 Clutch longevity

I purchased a new CTD about six months ago with the g56 (love it!!) I have about 22,000 miles on it so far and I was wondering what the average life of the clutch is on these trannies?

I know it depends on driving conditions, towing, off-road use, so i'm not looking for those types oif answers. I drive in the city and on the highway along with towing down the road about once a week 150 miles round trip (mostly Highway).

Thanks in advance

Mine will last forever because it's sitting in a box in my trailer along with the dual mass flywheel.......

I'm at 53k and I have a SBC DD3250 sitting at my house right now ready to go in. But that's what I get for SW9 on the smarty.

Nah I think the DMF is a bigger risk than the clutch on these trucks. You're probably looking 100 to 150k life stock.

It's really hard to say how long it will last just for the reasons that you already mentioned. It's kind of like brake pads. There are guys here that get 100,000 miles out of a set but for me here in the nation's capital area, I only get about 30-40,000 miles. Now, the pads on this truck seem to be doing much better than the ones in my 03 auto. Possibly because of the 6 speed trans and downshifting... You get the point....

I know the dealership near my house where I bought my truck saw 6 G-56s in prior to the 12K marker. I am also sure guys are well on the way to 100K miles on it. Maybe average 50K, but no one can tell.

I have put South Bend Con Fe in 2 07 trucks with less than 35K on them and the warranty is only good for 12K on the clutch. They have always had manuals so it was not driver error but they both tow a good bit and had a Edge EZ ( only 65hp) for a little better mpg and so on. They had the same EZ on his 05 for 96K and a EZ on a 03 with 140K with no probs. The other had a EZ on a 01 HO for over 100K. Both guys pull the exact same trailer's and loads that they did with there other trucks with no probs. I know this because it is my brother and brother in law and I work for my brother in law and ride in his truck every day ( all 3 of them) I do all the work on there trucks. That is why I went with the 08 6.7 with the 6spd auto even though I have heard that they changed the clutch on the 6.7. It pulls good enough that I had to install a Juice with Attitude for both of then after they rode in mine. Sorry to get off topic. I think as long as you take it easy you will be fine but who knows. When my brother took the EZ off it would not slip even with a load, but with it on it would slip in 4th and 5th and 6th empty. If 65HP makes the diff in holding fine and Slipping to bad to drive I don't want it, cant see it lasting too long even stock.

I have no idea how long they'll last, however if it starts getting really noisy or the pedal feels funny (like it doesn't want to release when you press it in) GET RID OF IT. Those flywheels can and sometimes will come apart and will take out the bell housing. Happened to a guy here locally, luckily they were able to weld the holes shut in the bell housing. Another one here had a bad vibration and it turned out to be the flywheel also. Not saying it's going to happen to yours, both of these trucks were '06's. The one that came apart has less than 100k and the one with the vibration had about 140k miles and both were used for towing.

couldn't agree more- asking other people about how long your stock clutch should last is like asking other people how much you will have to eat to feel full. it all depends on how you drive, how you tow, your mods, dumb luck, etc.

Mine too, it has 6,800 miles on it. Except, it's in a pile on the garage floor with the DMF and OEM hydraulics.

I would guess the range of miles is pretty broad, all the way up to 200K if it was totally babied and never towed.

Unhappy

I've got 51k and am having a similar problem with mine. I couldn't make it chatter or slip it prior to adding the XZT. Shelfed that and got a Smarty. Couldn't run it on SW1 and roll into traffic in fifth without it slipping. Took everything off and can't get it to act up ANY. I am coping for now and awaiting group therapy to start soon.

I'm running sw#1,285's and 2,000# on my back. I'm fearful that moving up to 35's will trigger the dreaded slip. Unloading Smarty is not the answer. Currently saving up for 35's and SBC OFE( I'll never exceed 400hp,too expensive to feed and emissions are coming to Ca. I can just smell the liberals)

They hold up "OK" to stock horsepower levels. I slipped mine with the Jr on level 2, so now it is on the floor and a SB is under the bell housing.
