fuel tank shield??

Guys,
just a couple statements and a question...
after a recent lift pump failure and trip to dealer, i discovered something very disturbing

i was returning home from a trip to GA and kept hearing metal flapping underneath the truck.....pulled over at the next available spot and crawled under the truck....to my surprise and disgust, i found the heat shield for the fuel tank dangling on two of the pins from the fuel tank and the drive shaft

i can only assume that the idiot that dropped the fuel tank forgot to put the heat shield back on before bolting up the tank ...then i guess he figured he would just stick it to the outside over top the tank straps with a couple of push on washers....

i guess i'm more upset with what could have happened than actually finding it the way i did...could you imagine the heat shield coming off the front pin on the tank and dropping down on the pavement while doing 70+mph on the interstate?????

i still am not sure how to handle this with the dealer....i'm still a little RED under the collar to speak with them

the only question i have is: do you guys think its OK to run without the shield until i can get the tank low enough to drop it???? i'm going to put the shield back on myself!!! i don't think i can trust the dealer to do it right!!!

any comments on the question or how to handle the dealer would be appreciated....

I think I'd let the dealer do it. Tell them you want someone dependale to do it . Point out the dangers of what might have happened.
