Fuel Mileage at 3400 miles

My SO Calif version with 5 spd and 4.10 ax. Used 36.0 gal. of #2 in going 691 miles. That is topping off at the same pump in the same station, before and after. That is 19.2 mpg and only 1/3 broken in. That is going up and over one ridge and down to cross the creek, then over the next ridge in these Sierra Mountains. Each fillup the mileage is better.

;D Yep - I'm hoping for good things (MPG) from this truck. ;D

I'm currently right at 19.0 MPG* (ave. w/50/50 city/highway miles unloaded). Re:Fuel Mileage at 3400 miles

You guys are getting great mileage. At just over 2400 miles, I'm a little under 17 mpg calcuating it the old fashioned way. Mostly city driving, flat terrain.

Re:Fuel Mileage at 3400 miles

PADZZ & DieselDude4x4, we live in the boonies, 4 miles of private road to the closest county road. From there it is 3 miles to US Hwy, Then another 5 miles to the nearest supermarket. It is 7 miles to the closest Diesel *******, thinks everything he sell is pure gold. Wally World will be open in January 14 miles from, here. Major department stores are at least 38 miles from here.

The tradeoff for nearby convenience is we the beauty of wild animals, trees, and quiet. NO cable tv available, only satellite. We do khave electricity, telelphones and municipal water. On an average day we have a dozen vehicles pass on the road in front of our house, many of which are UPS, propane trucks and other delivery trucks.

We have the big city, Sacramento 50 minutes away, and South Lake Tahoe 60 minutes away. I can be skiing in just over 45 minutes. We have many good restaurants within 20 minute drive. Wherever we go we put on the miles. In the average year I will drive 20K -25K miles. With a fun vehicle to drive distances don't seem that great.

Wick,

#2 Diesel sells for $1.619/g at the closest station, 38 miles away it sells for $1.499/g. Sometimes I buy 5 gals at closest station usually down once each week to where I can fill at the $1.499/g. That is a savings of $3.50 on a tank since I am already near there.

I love Tahoe. The wife and I went to reno for a horse show 2 uears ago and we stayed at a resort at Tahoe and it was the best thing we've ever done. We went down to the lake one night and took a dinner cruise on that boat they have down there. You know the one I'm talkin bout Phil ???

Yeh, Luke. Great place to take your wife. Lots of good food and entertainment. Been on the lake cruise several times. Lots to do for just about anyone.

A bit of Trivia: One of Missouri's favorite sons, Samuel Clemens, aka Mark Twain, started a forest fire that burn't down all the trees around Lake Tahoe. In his book, Roughing It.

Re:Fuel Mileage at 3400 miles

I learned to take a plane off the water at Tahoe. Could not get that underpowered rubber band plane off the water. My friend was in stitches laughing so hard. Water was too calm and insufficient power to break surface tension. He cut across the lake, kicked up some ripples, came back across them under power and popped it out at the ripples. : Oh well, live and learn. Neat place in the winter too. 22' of snow on the ground my last time up there two years ago.

By the way, back to the topic. I am still at 18.3 mpg mostly in town the last 300 miles. I'm happy. Fiver hooks up next week. Will not tow far, but I will get the feel of it. Anxious. We'll see how they like 16000 pounds. :P
Bob

Re:Fuel Mileage at 3400 miles

Bob, with that HO CTD yours 16000# should tow as well as my SO CTD tows 11000#. Frontal surface are is about the same for both of us. Once you have it moving weight doesn't matter much, except on the hills. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Phil

Boy, you fellows are are getting good milage, at 3500 miles I'm only getting 13 emty and 11 towing 7000# trailer. I would be tickled pink with any thing 15mpg or higher.
Maybe I'm driving it a little harder but I dought it, not much of towing drop though.

Re:Fuel Mileage at 3400 miles

Phil - went over your way yesterday - well, not quite, I took 88 - had to go to Tracy and back. Before leaving the truck had 370 miles on it - 120 highway and the rest city. The fuel mileage was 16.6. On yesterday's trip I went 370 more - up over Kit Carson pass, then 70 mph on route 99 and 5. Couldn't believe it. Pulled the steep hill along silver lake in 6th gear like it wasn't there, it rode and handled better than my wife's 2000 Durango, and when I got home I was making 21 mpg. Not bad pulling two ways over the Sierra's. And it will only get better. Can't wait to try it with the racecar trailer.
