Fuel Issue Please Help

Hey I am wondering if anyone has had the same problem that I am having and what they did to fix it. My 03' just started dying while I it is idling. If it doesnt die then it struggles through the problem and rev's itself back up pretty aggressively. I am going to start with the fuel filter tomorrow and see what happens. I am open for suggestions as this is my first diesel.

Sounds like air in the fuel. Check fuel line that is loose or rubbing on something. This will usually cause hard start also.

Sounds like it is possibly your lift pump starting to die. Does it still have the engine mounted lift pump?

How many miles on the truck? Were you having problems with it taking alot to get it to turn over, or did it happen suddenly. Possible bad fuel? Have you filled up recently? Was the truck sitting for an extended period? Drain the fuel out of the bowl and see if you got water in there....

I filled up about three weeks ago and had no problems. It has no problem turning over, it just happened out of nowhere. I drained the water tonight and there appeared to be no water mixed with the fuel. I talked with a dealer and they said it possible is a idle performance fault. They also said to do a diagnostic on it would cost around $200. I would rather spend the money on parts.

Cycle the key from off to on ( not cranking) 3 times ending in the on position. Any codes will read out in the odometer screen. I can help ya with more diagnostics after you read codes. Like said above though......sounds like a lift pump issue.

All right I ran outside and the code came up as P 0602. If it is the lift pump what does everyone suggest?

P0480 Fan 1 Control Circuit

No biggie.....I've had that one come and go from time to time. Just keep an eye on the temp guage. If you start continually running hot or have poor a/c then you may want to look into replacing the fan clutch.
