Fuel Fliter

How do you know when it is time to change the fuel fliter? Reason i ask is I'm going to start to run bio diesel and people say that it clogs you filter on the first tank or so.

Turbo_2500,
You should change your fuel filter at least every12-15k miles, I change mine with every oil change, which is around every 9k miles, I run Amsoil and the drain intervals are a little longer. Just my .10 cents. Let us know how the bio-diesel burns !!

I change my fuel filter every 10k. I have heard that after changing to biodiesel you should change the fuel filter after about 2 tanks. As easy as they are to change this should be no problem.

If that's the case, seems as if most of the cost savings are going out the door in more frequent fuel filter changes....even if you use & install your own Fleetguard #FS19579 filter at $12.00 or so.

i change the fuel and air filter every 15k. Dealer wanted to charge me $160.00 to change both of these filters...I could have bought enough of each to get me to 75K miles for what they wanted!

I'm not sure I follow, why just the first two tanks?

Because it suposedly cleans out the fuel system. My knowledge on this is from reading what others have written only, I have not as yet tried Bio.

FWIW, I've run bio B20 on/off many times. Never had to replace the filter because of the B20. I think the warning is more for older trucks with tons more crud.

I did replace it at 7500, 15k, and coming up on 30k for the next change.

I dunno about that - I had mine get so clogged that I could barely get home. It was my first tank of Bio (B100 - big mistake) and I had 7500 miles on her. Now, I'm not sure if it was dirty Bio, or a dirty tank, but I'm paranoid enough to always keep a spare filter and wrench with me at all times. That's not to say that I don't still run Bio - I do - but I'm cautious about it now. I would run a couple of tanks of B20 to get started and then change the filter out. After that - start running on beans and enjoy!

I do. It's my truck. I've done this. I've had no problems. I've been running B20 on and off the life of the truck. I changed the filter at 7500 myself, looked pretty clean. Dealer did it at 15k. Coming up on 30k.

I always have a spare filter and tools to change it in the truck. That's probably what keeps it OK.
