Fuel filter change
Fuel filter change
I already used the search function and came up with nothing that I was looking for.. Can someone give me a quick run down on now to properlly change my fuel filter. Its an 06.
Thanks
Thanks
I've never had to rev mine after a filter change and it runs just fine. I believe the common rail system is self priming.
For your filter change, one of the best things you can do is get a big gallon sized ziploc bag, open it up and stuff it so its next to the fuel filter canister. After you pop the fuel filter loose and let it drain for a little bit, just stuff it quickly into the bag, filter cap and all.
Pull the bag out and remove the cap and do all the o ring stuff.
Doing that will save you a lot of mess.

I've always wondered, once you have the old filter out is it necessary to swab-out the inside of the filter housing with a rag or paper towell Is there any need - do you typically get any dirt at the bottom? Or should you just pop-in the new filter?
After installing the new filter, bump the starter without starting the truck. Leave the key in the run position for about 30sec or so. The lift pump will re-fill the filter canister. The truck will start and run normally after this.
I like to clean out the canister. I figure all the crap falls to the bottom.

This is why I hate the cannister-style filter w/replaceable element. And also one of the reasons why I installed a 2um secondary filter between the stock filter and CP3. There's a clean side and a dirty side to that stock filter. I'd be careful about cleannig the cannister, and if you do make sure you get it really clean, because anything you dislodge into the clean side before you replace the element is going sraight into the CP3.
