crankshaft position sensor

crankshaft position sensor

My truck threw a p0336 last night and one of the guys on here looked it up for me on here and said it was crank position sensor.. It was running funny and I'm traveling back to vegas on this truck.. What does the crank position sensor do and how can I go about fixing it??

Check your wire running along the AC line... There is a sticky at the top of this page.. I believe if it is shorting out it will mess with the CPS.. i dont know if it will throw a code or not but, maybe it isnt the sensor..

Check the wiring harness connector to the crankshaft sensor. Make sure it is not loose, frayed, etc. The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) is attached at the front / left side of the engine next to the engine harmonic balancer (crankshaft damper). Did the CEL go out after 4 or 5 start/run cycles?

The crankshaft sensor is the primary engine speed indicator for the engine after the engine is running.
