The only after market stuff I have on the truck is the Quadzilla XZT tow module along with the quadzilla air intake. I sent Quadzilla an email asking them if it could have been something from the module. I didn't have any codes light up or anything warn me of a problem. It was raining slightly so the road was wet. There was a colorful path of fuel all the way to the dealership. When the service rep checked the oil it was slam full of fuel. There was no quess work as to wether or not there was fuel in there. He said he didn't think the engine was damaged cause it was runing fine with no knocks. He also said diesel fuel is oil based unlike gas.

Not sure I buy that line from the service rep. Both Diesel and Gasoline are refined from crude oil. Sure diesel has more lubricity than gasoline but it would sure cut the viscosity of your sump oil rather dramatically. With compression ratios of 22:1 and 610 ft lbs of torque there are some pretty extreme forces being generated in that engine and on bearing surfaces.

Although, it sounds like you may have caught it in time. One thing for sure...I bet your engine is going to be real clean inside once they drain the sump as it got a good #2 washing.

Another thing you might consider is getting an oil sample before they tear it down and having it analyzed for metals to determine if any abnormal wear to bearings occured.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you have no serious damage other than bad injector(s).

Interesting that you had a Quad XZT...that is reported to be a pretty mild tow box with rail pressures alleged to be hardly above factory at maximum operation.

Someone mentioned allowable idle time. Cummins once had it posted on their FAQ page but their recommendation is less than 5 mins and NEVER more than 10 mins. If you think it's gonna be more than 10 mins, turn it off. Otherwise, fuel will wash the cylinders. If it's cold out, they recommend high idle (1200-1300 rpm) OR many people just idle a couple mins then ease into their driving making sure to keep it around 1200-1500 rpm until operating temp. I've found that this second method works pretty good if you've got some surface streets or back roads to travel before winding her up. By the time I'm at the main highway she's ready to smoke'em. Hope this helps and remember the 10 minute rule!!!

It was a injector failure... Confirmed by the dealership today.
They ordered the new injector will install it tomorrow. No plans to drop the oil pan to check the crank bearings... The manufacturer said that to do that you basically have to pull the motor to get the pan off. It's to costly. They are confident that there is no damage to the bearing surface.
We'll see.

This is a story of sheer idiocy but has to do with idling time:

One night this winter we were at a function, and my cousin and I were with a bunch of friends at a nightclub, and he was the DD. He left with a gal and said I could ride home with so and so, they were sober. Problem was, so and so was gone already. Being completely wasted, I slept in the parking lot in my idling truck from about 1:30-2 AM until 7:00 AM. I was so far gone I didn't even engage the high idle. Fortunately, truck seems to be okay...althoughe she burned about 1/8 of a tank near as I could tell. But at least I was warm!!!
