Fuel additive
Fuel additive
I have been looking around to see what kind of additive to add when I fill up and came up with power service. Is that a pretty good additive? i really have no clue about this. what are yall opinions on what to add and what not to. thanks for the help
I use Stanadyne Performance Formula. It addresses any lubricity problems that ULSD may be causing, plus it improves cetane for performance and it is an anti-gel for winter use. They have other formulas that are more specific to problems; such as cold weather gelling or waxing of the diesel. DO NOT USE any additive that contains alchohol. It holds water in suspension in the diesel and will cause damage to your pump as it passes through. I don't know if Power Service contains alchohol or not.
Do i have to worry about changing the fuel filter after I run a tank of fuel through with the additive. i only have about 20000 miles on the truck just curious about how much gunk could be bulit up
Using a fuel supplement will make your truck run noticeably quieter and give you more mpg.

Personally, I change the fuel filter with every engine oil change. When our company got these new D-Maxes, GM said that once every 15000 miles was reccomended and use standadyne JR. with every fill up. We had so many failures that I couldnt even begin to list them all. They have came back and said that the filters won't last that long, but gave no reccomendation about when they should be changed. There are six of theses trucks in our dept. and we have found, thru failures, that its best to change at every oil change. The quality and cleanliness of on-highway diesel fuel varies greatly between suppliers, delivery trucks, stores, weather, processing variations...etc...
We also got away from the Standadyne JR after having numerous failures even though we were changing filters every 5000 miles and started running the Caterpillar fuel conditioner. My service truck hasn't had a fuel system related failure since then, that was approx. 60,000 hard miles ago.
