Front End "Wandering"..

Morning Guys,

I just re-did the entire fron end on my truck along with a tought country 5" lift. Brand new ball joints, entire steering assembly and u-joints. I'm running
35" Toyo Open Country MT's on stock rims.
After all this I had an alignment done at one of the better shops in town.

The issue i'm having is now that the truck "Wanders" left to right when in city traffic and I find myself correcting the steering even when driving in a straight line. It gets much better when i'm on a flat hwy travelling 60 mph.

I also paid the alignment shop to go over all the nuts and bolts and torque them down for me.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
JR

Allright, Wanders.

Your front end has some kind of conscious mind that allows it to "wonder"? Wow. Cool. What did it conclude?

Mine only wanders, and it's it's annoying. I'll ask it why.

THe DSS brace from Solid Steel was a big improvement on my 01 1500 on 35s. I'm considering it for the 05. Might be worth a shot.

Mine gets hungry when it wonders. I feed it wonder bread. Is this making the problem worse?

Well, after searching into this topic, i've concluded is that the factory track bar is most likely the culprit in the front end Wander.
From what i've read the concencuss out there is once you do a lift on the front end, the side to side forces on the facory rubber bushings in the track bar are too much which results in unwanted flex.

I've decited to order the thuren track bar to solve this issue.

My question is, what would be the preferred way of installation.

1. To install the track bar in factory mounting location without using the lift kit supplied drop down bracket and adjust the bar to suit.
or
2. To set the new track bar to the stock length and to use the drop down bracket.

Any Input.

Thanks,
JR

DSS corrected my wonder and DW along with Bilstein 5100 shocks. OEM steering stabilizer shock is still in.

The track bar needs to be mounted as parallel as possible with the tierod when it is sitting at ride height. If it is not on center, any movement of the suspension causes the track bar to push or pull the front end one way or the other. It is called “bump steer” . Happens on rock crawlers that are linked and that bar is not setup right.

Depending on the road those Toyos might "track" a little too.

Question Wandering front end?

I have an 07 3500 quad cab, NOT lifted and Toyo 33x12.50x18 and mine wanders with only 5500miles on the truck. If I load my Bigfoot camper on the back(3000lbs), It seems to be more noticable. The front end shop said the toe was off a little, but they were a little suspicious of the track bar. I looked at the bar while moving the steering back and forth and saw a small amount of movement. Whats acceptable? Would a Thuren track bar help? Thanks

My Toyos pull right. Ive spoken with several knowledgeable persons and i get several diff answers. The tire guys (les Schwab) say its the toyo's aggresive tread following the crown of the road. The combo of taller and wider also is a factor.

Local 4wd shop says trac bar (2 3/4" leveling kit) pushs the front wheels out to one side and this will cause the pull.

Ive been told an adjustable ball joint with 1degree positive caster will help. A better steering stabalizer will mask the problem. A longer(IE adjustable) trac bar will solve.

So where do i start? With the 265 factory mich's and a set of worn 285 goodyear MTR's it dosent pull/wander at all so i suspect the Toyos are the cause. What to do now?
