i have read all the post and seen the picts. I still can not find that pinhole. there is no dirt on my drive shaft just a little rust.. i cleaned it all off i removed the skidplate to change my tranfer case oil and i still cant not find that hole...

is it on the transfer case side going t the front driveshatf? i can see one big nut in there and thats it. i have spun it and felt around but im either looking in the wrong spot or im bilnd cause i cant not find that thing

Dang Hole

When I looked I was not aware of the pin hole deal. I asked the Service Manager at the dealer and he had his diesel guy come over and answer. He said that my truck did not have the fitting. I'll bet when it warms up I find it now that I know it's a fruit pin hole fitting.

Drive shaft grease fitting

My 06 has the sticker on the radiator. First time I had it back to the dealer I asked them and they said that the u-joints were sealed (no fitting). Not to doubt their expertise but I had a good look myself after seeing pictures posted here. They were right, no fittings. I have 47k on it now with some pretty good tows and everything is tight with no noise. I guess the jerks forgot to install the zerks.....

I also read that some trucks don't have the fitting, mine did. The u-joints themselves ARE sealed. The fitting is on the carden joint between the u-joints. Assuming it's there, of course.

I've found mine but don't think I've ever been able to shoot any grease into the stupid thing!

bansh-eman,

This is not your typical (male) grease fitting, it is a female fitting. The fitting is on the transfer case end of the front drive shaft. You need to be able to turn the drive shaft - jack up one front wheel. Get a good light under there and slowly turn the drive shaft while looking look at the u-joint. You have to look towards the transfer case.

Here is a picture.

If it's that hard to find, take the 4 bolts off front driveshaft and then will be 10 times easier. Then mark it with yellow paint pencil after greasing and cleaning up and before replacing driveshaft. I did not realize some do not have it. I would just take the 30 minutes and look with shaft off and make sure. But that's just me.

Fisherguy,
I use a hypodermic needle to inject grease into the fitting.

The needle type isn't the right one cuz it won't 'force' any grease into the joint. I've bought 2 of the proper ones so far, but still can't get any to go in...

I use the needle to grease mine. Works great everytime.... once you turn the driveshaft into the right position of course.
