Unhappy Fron end problems got expensive

My truck started making a horrible noise saturday on the way to a job.
Got bad enough I had my brother bring a trailer out and haul it back to a nice warm shop.

I thought the left front steering knuckle had gone bad. It was, but when we got the frontend off the ground the left front wheel bearing was bad also.
That is what I was hearing. I replaced both front steering knuckles and hub assemblies. Dodge presses the bearing in the hub, you cannot just replace the bearing.

5103507AA Hub 365.00 /ea
5086661AA Hub Bolt 3.85 /ea
5086665AC Steering u-joint 73.35/ea

Also replaced front pinion seal

5086697AB 14.35

No new toys for awhile.

This was not a fun project. I took about 2 hours and a lot of beating per side just to get things apart.

It's really not a good thing to miss the end of the chisel with a 3lb hammer.

After my eyes quit watering we finally got it apart.

Thought the part numbers might be useful for other folks.

Thanks for the part numbers.
Next time order a 464 Precision greasable U joint.
They run $33.

Pourindiesel, I tried the Precision but they didn't last that long for me....longer than stock though. A drivetrain shop who sold them and the Spicer Originals showed me how to compare them and for $8 more Spicers have lasted and are still going. ks

Did you ever re-grease them?
Interesting, you do have the smaller ones though.

I was told that the regreasable ones were not as strong due to the hollow core for the grease.

The local auto parts stores could not cross reference the part.

My dad does get a discount so I did save a little form the prices above.

I forgot to mention that the truck has 136000 miles on it.

Should be good for another 150000.

I have all of this past years sledpulling on greasable joints.

That says alot for the durability of the greasable precisions.
