Question fluid capacity

I know that it has been said before, but I need to know the capacities of the 6 spd tranny and transfer case on the '03? Plan to change the oil soon.

What is the best oil for each?

The book says nominally 9.5 pts for the 6 speed and 4 pts for the xfer case. I rounded up when purchasing oil to make sure I didn't run short.

Whats the best? Many oil wars have started by that simple question. Personally I like Amsoil or Redline for the tranny and xfer case. But there are many other good fluids to purchase as well.

Edit: I just looked up in my records and my tranny took 4.7 quarts and xfer case took 2.6 quarts when I changed mine out.

Thanx, bulabula.

I plan to remove the side plate on the tranny to clean it out, will I need a new gasket?

I don't know; I just pulled the bottom bolt out to drain it. You may want to have a fresh one in hand just in case.

I bought two PTO gaskets and cleaned my six speed out. I'm glad I did with what I was able to wipe out of there. I used Penzoil Synchromesh because it meets the Dodge spec. The gaskets are cheap and universal to anything with a 6-bolt PTO, you should be able to find them at any truck parts store.
