I have found that several manufacturers suggest a TBN no lower than 2 as per ASTM(D2896) or 1/3rd of the new oil as the lubricants use limits.

The TBN of fresh diesel rated lubricants range anywhere between a low of 7 to 12.5. Mobil Delvac SHC 5/40;however,carries a TBN of 16 and is rated for exteme duty marine applications.

Thanks for all the advice. Blackstone kit is on the way. I'll keep the fuel filter changed more often(I'm on #2 at 40k). Does the fuel additive help with the injectors? Schaeffer diesel treat 2000? Thanks again for the time.

The one thing I don't like about Blackstone is they charge you an extra $10.00 to get the TBN number where the oil kit from Amsoil includes the TBN number at no extra cost. I've also found out its cheaper to pay the postage then to buy the prepaid postage test kits.
