so i go flying up the high way tonight at 70MPH with my cold weather front all closed up all the way thinking that here in a few i was going to have to pull over and open a flap or 2. but i cruse about 5 miles and it come up to temp, just under the 200 mark, and stays there.
the outside temp was +22F why didnt it overheat?

I keep a piece of cardboard in between my rads, just behind the intercooler and have no heating issues even at 10C, have not tried it warmer then that. If I was pulling hard for a longer trip then it might make a problem.

I have never had to remove any winter fronts unil I tow, I have my grill closed up completely all summer and stil never overheat unless i tow. In the winter ( -20 range and below ) I also put cardboard in between the intercooler and rad to cover the bottom 75% of the rad

It didn't overheat because the cooling system on our trucks is about as stout as can be.... Remember they are designed to haul a lot of weight in 90+ degree heat..... forever.
Over kill for most of us. Just the way I like it....
btw- I just zip tie cardboard to the inside of my grill every winter. I use two pieces and leave about 2" or so open in the middle. It cost me nothing, works well, and this year I actually had some black cardboard so it doesn't even look too bad...

With the Dodge made winter front I have I leave 2 flaps open at temps between 17 to 36 degrees or my temp gauge will sit around 210-215 degrees. But then you have a six speed so you don't have to cool off trans fluid like I do so that may be why I have to leave 2 open at temps above 16 degrees and you don't.
