fanbelt tensioner

My 03 crapped out on me in Wakarusa, IN. on Sat. I am in KY. right now. I wanted to know what size of breaker bar I would need for the fanbelt tensioner. 1/2" or 3/4"?

My problem was as far as I know is that the idler pulley bearing was bad allowing unwanted vibration on the water pump and then the w.p. bearing went out and then my belt came off and I lost all power. I had to get a tow (after a 5hr wait) for 25 miles with a 24' 5th wheel attached at a cost of $100!

Then I had my girlfriend drive 6hrs up from KY to pick me up cause it was Easter weekend and nothing was open until Monday in the area and I only had $20 on me.

I now have a new W.P. and a belt and got a new bearing installed into the idler pulley. I almost forgot about a breaker bar and need to know the size before I go up and try to get my rig back on the road on Friday.

Is there any trick I should know about the instlation of the belt? Also I lost some antifreeze taking off the water pump so I picked up 2 gallons at Napa (Chevron DEX-COOL extended life) should that be about right?

Thanks for any info, Greg

Don't know for sure on the newer trucks, but my tensioner takes a 3/8" drive.

Dex-cool spec sheet FWIW.

Hope this helps....my 04 shop manual says to use a 1/2" long handle ratchet. I guess it wouldn't hurt to bring along a persuasion bar too.

Man, I can't believe you were able to get a girl to drive 6 hours and you only had $20 in your pocket. She's a keeper.

Don't use DEX-COOL! Only use the recommended HOAT antifreeze.

Thanks for the replys guys.

I guess I will take the DEX-COOL back in the morning. Who sells the Zerex G-05 brand? I have looked at several auto part stores and havent found any that meets the 5011764AB part number listed in the owners manual.

I bought a 1/2 drive breaker and found out that I have a 1/2 to 3/4 drive adapter so I would be ok on that now. I also have a trusty cheater bar also.

You are going to die by hearing this, but, you could use FORD gold coolant that currently going in the trucks.
