bad tensioner?
bad tensioner?
hey guys i'm a newbie here and also to the diesel world but not with mopars , cause that's all iv'e ever owned ! first things first , i have a 89 ctd utility body, auto with 95,000 on her. it just died one day . my first thought was it must be electrical because prior to this my wipers and blinkers were slower for 3-4 days but the alt gauge read normal. i had never had a vehicle with a tensioner before so i don't know if you can adjust them . it doesn't make any noise but after a day and a half of a slow charge , the truck fired up normal with wipers etc. still slow and the serp belt dancing. so as you people can see , i'm not sure what my options are so any help would be greatly appreciated! .....btw nice site!
Re:bad tensioner?
The tensioner spring is built in and is not adjustable. Sounds like it may be weak or the belt is worn and slipping. If you decide you need a new tensioner, I have a brand new one in the box that I bought and never installed on my 89. If you want it, drop me a PM and we will make arrangements. It is just sitting there collecting dust and I'm not even sure it will fit my 99 or not.
Once you lose enough voltage, the fuel solenoid will drop in and shut off the fuel supply just like shutting off the key..

DD4X4
Re:bad tensioner?
Time for a new one. They go about 80,000 miles, so you went the distance with it. I got lucky and went about 150,000 miles with mine and it was still good. I just replaced it because I was nervous.
