Fan running too much?

I have noticed at times that my fan is engaged when it's like 50-60 degrees outside, or when the engine isn't even warmed up. I have also noticed it running whenever the a/c compressor is on. Makes a whole lot of annoying fan noise when I don't think it should be. Is this right? Is everyone else's experiences similar or should I get it checked?

kry226, you say the fan is engaged when it's 50-60 outside. Is that in the morning first thing. The reason I ask is on both my old Chebby and my new CTD when I shut down the truck in the evening and the fan is engaged it will be engaged the next morning upon start up.

I think there is an expansive/liquifing(sp) metal like eutectic in a circuit breaker that engages/dis-engages the fan. I am just running off of suspicion but I notice some of the same symptoms you note and have not worried but once or twice about it.

The fan should kick in some when you have the A/C or Defroster on. Yes it will make some noise and it could sound like a jet engine. The fan has an electric circuit on it that will cause it to do that when you engage A/C or Defrost. Oh yeah make sure you don't have the system on recirc because that will cause the A/C conpressor to kick on and the fan to engage also.

mine does it too. no rhyme or reason. just kicks on. no recirc, no AC, fan off...it's not often, so it would never get diagnosed it's just loud as hell and quite irritating

Mine runs with the A/C on too....this is a normal condition. Once the RPMs get up high enough it will quiet down. It works great for clearing kids off of the street that normally wouldn't get out of your way!

I had a feeling that it is normal, but common sense just says to me it should be otherwise. Thanks for the responses. I do feel better, I just don't like it too much. 11k on the clock in 5 months and it just keeps getting better. I've noticed a slight dip in mileage, so a fuel filter change is probably in order. Thanks guys.

I like it too. Clears the slow folks out of the way at Wal Mart.
