Fan Clutch Problems
Fan Clutch Problems
I have a 2004.5 wit a smarty jr. on it. My truck is running really hot. I had my transmission serviced and asked them to check it out. They said that the fan clutch was not working. When it gets hot I notice a substancial power loss. Is that the engine cutting down because of the heat or another problem? My transmission is also starting to heat up when the heat gets up. Normal driving the engine coolant temp stays around 195 but gets up if I get in it or starting and stopping a lot and my transmission is around 190. Is that too high for the transmission. I just had it rebuilt about 10k ago. It didn't get a degree over 175 so I am a little worried. THanks for the help.

Jb, I got the same issues except the power shut down. I've replaced tstat, fan clutch, temp sender. Mine will kick the fan clutch on when the engine temp is not hot but normal operating temp but the transmission is warm from stop and go driving only after shutting it off and restart never while she's getting heated up. The fan clutch kicks in when it shouldn't and won't when it should be. Is there a temp sensor in the transission that could be bad. I guess the final thing which I can't test is the ECM. There is also no codes set.
