Re:extended warrany??

Most may be planning on keeping their truck well past the warranty. But, if there is a chance you might sell before the warranty expires an extended warranty might be a good selling point.

Re:extended warrany??

I wasn't in the market for a new truck. Just stopped to look. The 99 was perfect but when the salesman said part of the deal would include a 7/70 extended warranty at no charge to me and 8 free oil changes over 4 years, no charge, I couldn't resist. ;D

Re:extended warrany??

The extended warranty, like everything else, is a negotiable item. I have bought 2 in my 30 years of car ownership. One paid off in 1982, one did not a couple of years later. The last new truck I had was an 01 GMC 1500 4x4. I skipped the $1100.00 warranty. I had 60,000 miles on it, of which 40,000 was towing an 8k RV throughout the US. I had 2 minor problems. Had I spent $100 on a shop manual I could have fixed it myself. Both were sensor faults. The dealer did the fix for $300. I kept the truck religously maintaned. I fighure I saved $800 by skipping the warranty. What I find interesting about warrantys, as well as paint protection, undercoating and all the other scams, is that they are usually pushed by the finance person. Kinda like the tag team approach to milkin the cow! I skipped it on my 04 2500

Re:extended warrany??

Put the 1200 you would spend in a CD at the bank, the odds would be in your favor that you would not spend it on getting your truck fixed in the first 100,000.
