Extended Warranty worth it?

I purchased my truck a few weeks back and I was going over the paperwork to see how much I got charged and Holy #$%* that extended warranty is expensive! Does anyone in here think that the extended warranty (5/100,000) is worth it. For the amount of money I could save I could almost do anything myself. Any input and personal experience is appreciated.

If that is a 5 year or 100,000 mile warrenty on the Bumper to Bumper and you paid anything over $1,000 you got screwed. The 5 year deal is the bad part about the whole thing. I will not have anything close to 100,000 miles on my truck in 5 years, mabey not even the 36,000 mile??????? It really all depends on how much you are going to be driving the truck. Now if that was a warrenty on the engine then you really took it up the can because Cummins has that warrenty claim on there own, without Dodge.????? I usually dont even consider the Extended Warrenty unless I buy Used and then I make the Dealership eat the cost. This has saved my wallet a couple of times on a 03 Durango that I had. SLT Plus Loaded with Problems !

i had a personal experience.
i bought a dakota and i said no! to the warranty. 6 months later the tranny went out. remember i did not buy it new. the next truck was a ram 1500. this time i said yes! had to take it in for the typical intake leaks and had a host of other things covered while it was in the shop. now i am about to have another experience with this truck in again i said yes! to the aftermarket warranty. i think i spun a rod bearing. i will be making some calls in the morning. m.02

First of all, Yes I paid more than $1000. A lot more. It sounded good at the time but the dealer quoted me a monthly payment on the extended plan but for the entire amount of the loan. The thing is, the extended plan is only for the last 2 years and when I divided that by what I paid I nearly passed out. I'm so embarassed I don't even want to say how much. Needless to say I will be cancelling tomorrow. This was my first new purchase ever, and I think I got taken to the cleaners on the extra stuff. I got the payment insurance premium too. Not sure about that one either, around 90 cents a day. Maybe I'll cancel that too. I love this site because it tells you what to beware of on the truck itself, but I never thought to ask about the process of purchasing a new truck!

I still am scratching my head as to my extended warrenty purchase. I got a 7yr./70K that came with 24 free oil change coupons ($80 x 24= $1920) for $2495. The best part is that if I don't use the warrenty once it expires I get every penny of it back and the oil changes are still mine to keep.

x2

I got the 5/50,000 instead of the 3/36,000 and it is a bumper to bumper and it cost just under $500. I figured it to be an OK deal. After the 3/36 is up I have a $50 deductable. If one big thig goes wrong it will have paid for itself.

The extended warranty price is negotiable. I got the dealer to come down $500.00. Whether or not it's worth it, ask the guy a few threads down who's paying $1700.00 for new ball joints and wheel bearings. His 7/70 doesn't cover it, my extended warranty does. If I bought new I might reconsider, but my truck was used.

Is it not better (if it could be managed) to just drop the $$$ out of pocket for the extended warranty rather than finance it? I would drop $1000 if I had it to save my **** in the long run!

I just bought the MaxCare 7yr-70,000 mile Chrysler OEM extended for $1150.
That was the best price I've found, but I'm not sure if it was one of my better ideas, TIME WILL TELL!

I bought the extended warranty, for my 2004.5, I did purchase the gold package direct from dodge. The reason was after many visits to the dealer, I figured safe than sorry, and I purchased it right before the end of the standard 3/36, as long you keep the milage under a number you are able to pay without a surcharge, and no finance charges. I thing one major problem, it pays for itsself, as stated earlier.
