Extended Warranty worth it?
#16
Well to me the extended warrenty has paid for itself and will continue paying for itself.
I have had 2 speedos replaced, front u joints, ball joints, ac recharged and re calibrated, power steering problems.
It is hit and miss with these trucks.
I am sorry to say but we talk about Ford owners blind faith in their trucks, Dodge owners are the same as are Chevy die hards.
question you have to ask yourself is, how much can I fix myself, is it worth my time, do I have the tools to fix it and how much fun can I have annoying the dealership if things do break.
I have the tools or will buy them but for the time being I let the extended take care of all the problems. Well excpet rear u joints that Ireplaced on a weekend.
I paid $2500 cdn for mine and it has paid for itself already. So I am not to dissapointed.

Just picked my 04' 4x4 up today from the dealer. Woen front hub bearing and 4 ball joints will run you $1,700 and some change. The real kicker,...the truck has 59K miles on it and neither of those parts were covered under a warranty. That was a tough check to write.

I bought an extended "service contract" when I bought mine and regretted doing it. I could be earning interest on the money now instead of DC. I do get my money back if I don't use it and I don't plan on using it unless any needed repair exceeds what I paid for the contract. I just replaced the latch/lock mechanism on the driver's door tonight. Cost $47.50, a whole lot less than what I paid for that contract.

Since I cancelled mine I guess I can go ahead and say that I paid a whopping $2980 for my 5/100,000 Bumper-to-bumper. I cancelled it first thing yesterday and I'm getting a complete refund. If I ever decide to get an extended warranty, it will be when my 3/36,000 is near its' end. Like I said earlier this is my first new purchase and I'm learning as I go so try not to rag on me that hard. Thanks.

I'd never buy an extended warranty - as a matter of fact, warranties don't matter much to me at all: if I think I'll need to use it - I'll probably buying a higher quality product instead!

First Off Let Me Tell You Guys I Am A Finance Manager And Hear Both Sides Of The Story Everyday. Each Person Is Different. Some People Feel Better With It Than Without. Its How You Look At It. Its Gambling, Do You Want To Come Up With $30-$40 A Month Or $400-$2000 If Something Breaks. Chances Are, If You Are On This Site, You Have A Modified Truck, And There Is A Good Chance The Warranty Wont Cover It Anyway. They Are Sold To Make Money. For That Price You Could Have Gotten A 7yr 100000.

I paid $1,400 for DC 7yr/70k extended warranty at purchase. It has come into play once so far, not near enough to pay for itself yet and it may never. It is insurance, if you don't use it you did not need it. Of course you don't know until it runs out whether it was worth it or not. I had a similar one on my last chevy truck and it more than paid for itself a couple of times over. One A/C compressor at 40k and a couple of other major repairs.

You can buy the official Chrysler warrenty from any authorized dealer. I bought mine from www.chryslerwarranty.com and saved a ton. My finance officer at the dealer was furious that I got it so cheap. Good folks and a real Dodge dealer who makes $60 on each contract. They make their money in volume. They sell about 50 a day. Not too bad for a one person department.

GEICO Insurance has a policy that works on New Vehicles- - - - -It is a warrenty on your Vehicle that covers EVERYTHING that your Bumper to Bumper 3yr 36000 mile does for 100,000 Total! I think that it is $7 a month, and If never used you get a full refund! I checked on my deductible and it will be a $50 ded, and will NOT GO AGAINST my Insurance if USED????????????? Sounds good, mabey to good---what do you think?????

Advocate of getting the ban button used on him...
On my last Dodge truck (98 4x4 360 gasser) I had the auto trans rebuilt 2 times, the fuel pump replaced, and the engine short block replaced. I think I got my money worth!! Like said before, you will never know if it was worth it untill the warranty is up. I would rather have it and not need it. Things on these truck are getting so expensive.

I still am scratching my head as to my extended warrenty purchase. I got a 7yr./70K that came with 24 free oil change coupons ($80 x 24= $1920) for $2495. The best part is that if I don't use the warrenty once it expires I get every penny of it back and the oil changes are still mine to keep.

My dealer tried to sell me that side deal of refund if not used. It is third party alright. It's used to encourage you not to use your warranty on anything other than a VERY high ticket item. Imagine: You buy a $1200 warranty 7/70. It's 6 years into the warranty and something goes wrong that costs, say $500 or so. If you use the warranty, you walk away from a $1200 refund that matures in 12 months. What do you do? You pay $1200 for a refund that's been working on interest for the seller for 6 years AND you still pay the full cost of the repair of $500, thinking you are going to get our origonal $1200. Now jump forward 6 months and there's another issue with the truck. This time for, say, $1000. What to do? Use the $1200 warranty or spend $1000 so you can get your full refund back? Either way, you spent more than you needed to. Oh, that 3rd party policy on the refund for your warranty. That costs about $200 too.
Insurance is only a good deal IF YOU USE IT!!!
Don't buy a policy for your policy. That's not good sense!!
