Exhaust Brakes

Alright guys I need some help. My boss just bought a new 2003 Dodge with a Cummins and a 6spd and now he wants to put on an exhaust brake. What is the best brake he could put on and what is the cost of it. One more thing does he have to have the valve springs replaced with a heavier version or not. Thanks for the help guys.

They may be some cheaper ones, but I sure am happy with this one.

No, you don't replace valve springs. It is designed for the 2003 even down to including a vacuum pump and setup for the 4" exhaust.

Cost - - ? Don't know. I got in on the promo special of $799 installed with a $500 rebate. Total cost installed was $299. I think they are more than that now - - they got smart because they are harder to put in that the old ones.

Re:Exhaust Brakes

Just ordered my jacobs (from the dodge dealer) $1395 in a box - another $500 to install. I'll install it myself when I put the gauges on. I've heard the install directions are very good. I checked with another dealer just to keep them honest - same price. Also ordered the rear wheel well liners and a bed matt - all were the same price from two different dealers.

I' assembling quite a stack of parts for a truck I don't even have......last update was somewhere in Kansas.

Re:Exhaust Brakes

Hmm, I saw some posts on TDR where guys were getting the Jacobs brake for around $500 or so if they ordered one when they ordered a truck. Might bring this up to your dealer. I don't know what was entailed in the "special" deal or if it's still going on.

http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...ghlight=Jacobs

Vaughn

Re:Exhaust Brakes

Ditto what Fiverbob said. I couldn't be happier with my exhaust brake also.
I would imagine the exhaust brake price when you buy it at the same time as the truck could be negotiated.
Randy

Re:Exhaust Brakes

To answer your questions the valve springs do not have to be changed. Jacob (Jake) gives full warranty from Dodge, install by Dodge. Others carry a warranty on the parts. I believe if any engine damage is done and it can be traced to the exhaust brake and it is not Jacob, you foot the bill. I got a better price from Cummins but on backorder. I ordered through my cousin who owns a trucking co. and deals alot with Cummins. I will install it myself.

Re:Exhaust Brakes

Mine is a Jacobs, the only one warranteed with the Dodge Cummins. I got the same special as FiverBob; it was a commercial incentive that required a company tax-id number. The price has gone up since I ordered mine back in December. I am ecstatic with mine. Dealer installed in 5 hours. I saw the installation instruction manual, and it looked very thorough and detailed, so anyone with reasonable mechanical skills should be able to put it in.

Re:Exhaust Brakes

The service manager at my dealer e-mailed me early last week to tell me that he can now get the Jacobs e-brake and install it on the '03 HO-48RE that I ordered and that should arrive @ his dealership tomorrow or Tuesday. $1325 + install labor.
