Exhaust brake not working
Exhaust brake not working
Greetings everyone.
2007.5, 113,000 miles. 2wd, automatic, crew cab, 2500. NO modifications.
My exhaust brake stopped working. I had the red lighting bolt and the yellow engine light illuminated. Smarty Jr. said the lightning bolt was a p2509 code. So I cleaned the battery terminals and cleared the code but the yellow engine light didn't go out. I've been driving the truck like your grandmother and thought maybe that was the problem. So I really got on it leaving a few redlights and stop signs and now the engine light is off too. Problem is according to a buddy with a $4000 snap on scaner, I still have the p2509 code and the exhaust brake still doesn't work. No trouble lights on, nothing in the diagnostic menu, #37 15 amp fuse is good and there is voltage on both sides of it.
Sorry to make my first post a problem post.

Coolant temperature
Ambient air temperature
Exhaust manifold pressure sensor
Throttle pedal position sensor
Fault codes with any of these sensors will cause the exhaust brake feature to be disabled.

Could a sensor be faulty and not throw a code?
For the 71 people who viewed this thread, the answer is the Exhaust brake actuator is failing or has failed. Since this is not a serviceable part, the entire turbo needs to be replaced.
Everything associated with the P2509 code checked out ok, which led the tech to check the operation of the EB itself. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Good thing I bought the extended warranty.

If he has a 6.7 and not a 5.9 with the Jake EB, this don't apply.
Last October my exhaust brake quit working every time the engine thru the
Crank Shaft Position Sensor Code. Come to find out, when the EB was installed and the new belt put on, it was not routed correctly and was wearing into the CSPS. It tool 8 months for it to screw up.
I cleared the code with the Juice and the truck and EB would work fine.
