Cruise not working, NOT the vacuum line

Hi all,

I am still trying to get my cruise working. I have eliminated the common vacuum line issure under the battery, as people with that problem still get power to the steering wheel controls. My controls on the wheel don't get any power at all. I pulled apart the steering wheel switch today and cleaned the contacts and tested it, but still nothing. I don't have a service manual (ebay bum took my money and never sent the manual!!!) so I don't have any schematics. Also, the owner's manual doesn't mention which circuit the cruise is on, so I can't look more closely at the fuse. I did check all of the fuses though and they are all good (both under hood and on the side of the dash). I am wondering about the clock spring in the steering column, but I need a scematic of the plugs so I know which wires to check for power. I don't want to pick the wrong one with the airbag on there!!!

Any help would be very much appreciated...and a link or picture of the cruise wiring diagram for a '96 would be awesome!

Jim

Next most common cause of no cruise is the brake light switch. It has two sets of contacts, your brake lights could work fine but not the cruise. Easy first test is to lift up the brake pedal with your foot while driving and see if the cruise works.

You can pick up the Diagnostics Procedures manual for $21 here
https://techauthority.gltghosting.co...rn=80102&qty=0

Don't know about your '96 but for a '95 there are 40 pages of cruise control tests, way too much info to provide here.

Your ebay experience is quite common with service manuals, especially the the ones on CD.
What happens is Chrysler goes though often and busts the people selling them as they are all pirated illegal copies.

I don't do the CD ones...I have talked with a couple people who had bought those kinds of things, and they are usually just the full manual copied onto CD in no specific order, so you need to sort through all of the pages to find what you want. I had bought a real book.

I actually just replaced the brake light switch because the TC kept unlocking every time I hit a bump. All better now. The cruise didn't work before the new switch, and still doesn't.

Thanks for the link...might be worth doing.

What happen to a friend was when the dealer replaced his brake light switch they bent one of the connector pins. Cruise worked for awhile, then intermittent, then not at all. Took forever to figure out what happened because the only way to see the bent pin was with a mirror.

You'll like Diagnostics manual. Although it's set up for using a scan tool on our 12 valves most of the tests can be done with just an volt/ohm meter.
